A washout toilet, informally called a German toilet, is a kind of flush toilet predominantly used in Germany and Austria. The German terms for this type of toilet are Flachspüler or Hochspüler. The German toilet has a shelf in the toilet bowl above the water surface to hold the faeces before flushing, where they may be inspected, dissected, or assist in the collection of samples.
