The Water Environment Research Foundation ("WERF") is a United States organisation which helps its subscribers improve the water environment and protect human health by providing sound, reliable science and innovative, effective, cost-saving technologies for improved management of our water resources. WERF is the research branch of the Water Environment Federation (WEF).

The Water Environment Research Foundation, formed in 1989, is America’s leading independent scientific research organization dedicated to wastewater and stormwater issues. We have managed nearly 400 research projects, valued at more than $85 million.

We are a nonprofit organization that operates with funding from subscribers and the federal government. Our subscribers include wastewater treatment plants, stormwater utilities, and regulatory agencies.
