This article is about the Scottish slang term for a Glaswegian. For other uses, see Weegee (disambiguation).
Weegie or Weedgie is a slang term referring to people from Glasgow in Scotland, which is used as a noun or adjective.[1] It is a contraction of the word Glaswegian, referring to people from Glasgow.
An informal and, to some, insulting term in Scotland, it can be heard regularly on radio stations such as Talk 107 or Sunny Govan FM whilst also appearing in the books of Irvine Welsh. Bobby Williamson lightheartedly referred to himself as a "Weegie Hun" ("Hun" in this context being a pejorative term for a person associated with Rangers F.C.) whilst manager of Hibernian F.C.[2]
Weegie is also a slang term for a person of the country of Norway, and can sometimes refer to the Norwegian language.
