[edit] Location
Wellard station is located 37.3 km (23.2 mi) south of the Perth central business district in the suburb of the same name. The station is in the central part of the town, situated on the southern side of Chiswick Parade between the eastern and western sections of Lambeth Circle.
[edit] Transit-oriented development
The station is at the heart of an award-winning transit-oriented development scheme known as The Village at Wellard. Its design that incorporates parks, walkability, and rail proximity has earned it awards from the Urban Development Institute of Western Australia, Planning Institute Australia, Landscape Industries Association, and HIA Land-Corp.[1] The development contains not only low- and medium-density residential development, but also over 57 ha (0.22 sq mi) of parkland and conservation areas.[2]
[edit] Service
Wellard is on the Mandurah Line of the Transperth Trains network, a hybrid metro-commuter rail system with five lines in metropolitan Perth. As such, it receives trains northbound to central Perth and southbound to the suburbs of Mandurah and Rockingham. Three stopping patterns serve Wellard station: all stations, C, and K (only towards Perth).[3]
In the inbound direction, all stations and K-pattern trains take about 31 minutes, averaging 72.1 km/h (44.8 mph), to arrive at Perth.[3] C-pattern trains stop at all stations except Canning Bridge heading to Perth, taking 29 minutes at an average of 77.2 km/h (48.0 mph).[3]
In the outbound direction, an all stations train takes about 22 minutes, averaging 89.5 km/h (55.6 mph), to arrive at Mandurah.[3] C-pattern trains operate locally to Mandurah apart from skipping Canning Bridge; this has no effect for passengers departing Wellard for any southbound stations. K-pattern trains do not stop at Wellard on their way to Rockingham.[3]
[edit] Station layout
Wellard utilises a simple side platform layout with two tracks. Platform 1 is used by trains bound for Perth underground station (these trains generally continue onto the Joondalup Line) whilst platform 2 is used by trains heading south towards Mandurah. Access to the station is provided from the busway platforms adjacent to Chiswick Parade on the northern side of the station and a parking lot on the southern side of the station with a concourse connecting the two with faregates above the tracks. A pair of escalators and lifts past these gates head down to the platform level.[4]
