Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge
The Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge is an unofficial golf event held every November at the Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, Nevada. The tournament is a unique stroke play event, and, as the name suggests, pits three-member teams from the PGA Tour, the LPGA Tour, and Champions Tour (known as the Senior PGA Tour prior to 2001) against each other for a purse of $900,000. In 2008, the event was played at Rio Secco Golf Club [1] in Henderson.
The event takes one day to complete, and is usually held on a Tuesday. It supports the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a charity established by the founder of Wendy's, the fastfood restaurant that sponsors the tournament. In 2005 the tournament raised a record $3.8 million, and, since it was founded in 1992, it has raised more than $21 million overall for adoption.
ABC televised the event until 2009, showing the tournament tape-delayed on a weekend in December just before Christmas, with the first nine holes broadcast on Saturday, and the final nine holes on Sunday. Terry Gannon did the on-air play-by-play. The 2010 event aired on Golf Channel on December 9.
The event is handicapped to level the playing field. The PGA Tour players play the course at its full length, while the Champions Tour players hit from tees that make the course shorter and the LPGA players from shorter tees still.
