The West is a sub-region of the London Plan corresponding to the London Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow. The sub region was established in 2004 and was adjusted in 2008 to include Kensington and Chelsea.[1] The west has a population of 1.6 million and is the location of 900,000 jobs.[1] The sub region forms the London part of a pan-regional area known as the "Western Wedge".[2]

Contents

[edit] Settlement

There are metropolitan centres at Ealing, Harrow, Hounslow and Uxbridge; with major centres at Chiswick, Fulham, Kensington High Street, Kings Road East, Southall and Wembley.[3] Opportunity areas are identified at Heathrow, Park Royal/Willesden Junction, Wembley and White City; with much of the potential for regeneration focused close to central London.[3]

[edit] Transport

It is the location of London Heathrow Airport. It is planned that Crossrail will serve the airport and other locations in the sub region. Existing trunk routes are the A4 road and the A40 road, and the Great Western Main Line.

[edit] Sport

West London is the home of three Premier League football clubs: Chelsea, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers, as well as League One side Brentford. These football clubs are part of the West London derby. West London is also where the world famous Wembley Stadium, the national football stadium of England, is located.
