Whiting Fire and Rescue also acts as the Portage County Hazardous Materials Response Team, providing level B response across the County. Additionally, the Fire & Rescue Department is home to the Traffic Incident Management Team or "T.I.M." which provides assistance to law enforcement and other fire departments throughout the county in the event of a large scale motor vehicle accident or any incident which requires a road to be closed. The current Chief of the Whiting Fire & Rescue Department is Daniel Kontos, who also serves with the Portage County Sheriff's Department.
