The original Widget video game was released in 1990.

[edit] Plot

Widget must stop his evil twin from destroying the planet Earth. Widget was sent to Earth and uses his changing powers to fight enemies.

[edit] Overview

Widget is a platformer, much like Mega Man where you play as an alien who shoots pellets out of a gun. Also like Mega Man, the player can choose which level to play first, after beating the first level, and gains a new weapon (in this case new creatures he can change into) each time he beats a boss.

[edit] Reception

By a new generation of retro-gamers, this title is notorious for its glitchy and uncompleted nature. Numerous glitches that allow the player to move through walls have been exploited. There are also others which are capable of crashing the game or warping the player to the next room of a level. Many of these glitches are exploited by speed-runs of the game as well.

[edit] Rarity information

This game has been given a rarity rating of "B" (Rather rare) by a site known as NintendoAGE. It is valued to be about fifteen dollars loose (cartridge), and can go for much more if it is still factory sealed or complete in the box.

Super Widget was a video game for the SNES made in 1993 by Atlus. It was a sequel to Widget for the NES.

[edit] Plot

A new alien force threatens Earth. Widget, with his sidekick Mega-Brain, must explore the Horsehead Nebula and save the planet once again.

[edit] Gameplay

The structure of this platformer is quite similar to that of Super Mario Brothers. Widget must travel through various planets in his quest to reach the rank of World Watcher. In these planets, Widget will need to traverse rigorous terrain and collect "W" coins along the way. 100 of the coins will grant Widget an extra life. In his natural state, Widget can only succumb to one hit before dying. However, if he can find tokens with letters embedded on them- he can transform into a more powerful creature that can take more hits. If he collects another identical token, Widget will evolve once again and take the form of an even greater creature- one that can take three hits before a death occurs. If three are collected, the player will get a forcefield that can act as a shield from one hit.

Unlike most platformers, performance will be ranked on a grading scale of C-S (with S being the best rank possible). After conquering each level's boss, you will be taken to a screen which evaluates the time it took to finish the level, your combat rank and overall Watcher experience points. This information is practically useless, and it will not affect either the gameplay or the final ending of the game.
