Welcome to WikiProject Schools!
If you are creating, or have just created a new article about any school, please go here first: |
WikiProject Schools covers all articles about schools, school districts, and related articles such as school, as well as institutions that use college or academy as part of their name, but are actually primary or secondary schools. It also includes further education schools and sixth form colleges, and vocational and job schools that do not award recognised degrees in their own right.[1]
[edit] Project goals
This project aims to improve the quality of school-related articles. Articles within the scope this project should become far more substantial than stubs, and ultimately match the quality of featured articles.
[edit] Article guidelines
Guidelines at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines demonstrate what school articles should contain, and provide a recommended common page structure. These guidelines are advisory and editors are not obliged to follow them.
[edit] Article grading
School articles are graded for quality based on the Assessment scale and for importance using the Release Version Criteria scale. For further information, visit the Assessment department.

Participants in this project are listed at Participants. If you wish to join our project and be of active help in maintaining the quality of Wikipedia school articles, please add your name to the list. If you wish, you can then also add the schools project userbox to your user page. This main page and the navbox on the right list some of the more urgent tasks, be sure to keep it on your watchlist.
[edit] Templates
Use templates to further spread recognition of this project and create more consistent messages. They are explained and illustrated on our templates page. There's also a small one you might like to add to your own user page.
[edit] Infobox templates
For full instructions on the use of infoboxes for schools, see WP:WPSCH/INFOBOX.
- None of these templates should be substituted.
- Please be sure to use the correct infoboxes. Different English speaking countries have different criteria parameters.
- Generally, most elementary[2], middle[3], secondary, 6th form, FE schools, and vocational colleges in the United Kingdom and Australia that have the word College in their name are not universities, and should not use a university infobox.
- Do not modify or create new school infobox templates. If you feel something should be improved, or a new infobox is needed, please start a discussion on the school project talk page.
- Some USA school districts have custom infoboxes, see Category:Education infobox templates, however the generic {{Infobox school district}} should preferably be used.
- Australian schools use the generic {{Infobox school}}
- Other regions use:

[edit] Notes
- ^ Recognised degrees are generally bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees. This project includes polytechnics and vocational colleges that do not award degrees or which are affiliated to universities who issue the degree on their behalf. Organisations that are authorised to issue their own degrees are covered by the Wikipedia Project Universities.
- ^ Elementary/primary, and UK prep schools do not normally qualify for Wikipedia articles and will generally be merged by an experienced editor to their respective school district (USA), or locality page.
- ^ Middle schools do not normally qualify for Wikipedia articles and will generally be merged by an experienced editor to their respective school district (USA), or locality page.
