  • At March 15, in Gothenburg, Wikimedia Sverige will have årsmöte (general assembly?).
  • In December 2007, Wikimedia Sverige was approved as an official Swedish chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation. During the first two months, we have exhibited at two conferences (Internetdagarna, Stockholm; FSCONS, Göteborg). Our first little brochure is now also available in English (PDF).
  • A start up meeting for a Wikimedia Sverige is due on October 20, 2007 at sv:Naturhistoriska riksmuseet. Relevant info will be found on Meta:Wikimedia Sverige, preparation dicussions can be found on sv:Wikipedia:Wikimedia Sverige. Anders Wennersten 09.31, 24 August 2007
  • Discussions on how to market Wikimedia projects in Sweden and possibly start a national chapter (Wikimedia Sweden) have started on the Swedish Wikipedia, see sv:Wikipedia:Wikimedia Sverige and also my postings to foundation-l and wikisv-l (archive open to list members). The discussion also continues at a wiki café meeting in Stockholm this Sunday (July 22, 2007). --LA2 22:06, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Swedish government glossaries, from sweden.gov.se. They include descriptions of governmental and administrative functions in English. We may move them to /Terminology.
  • There is currently a dispute going on at Talk:Elena Paparizou on what nationality should be mentioned in the introduction, with some Greek people claiming that Paparizou (who was both born, raised and started her artistic career from Sweden) should be referred to as only "Greek" and not "Greek-Swedish". It would be good if as many people as possible could comment and give their view on the issue. /Slarre 22:34, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
I think the most important thing is to try and find what Wikipedia's guidelines says. Having a bunch of Swedes defending her Swedish heritage is unlikely to yield much. / Fred-Chess 15:30, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Press[edit]

  • If you are not active on Swedish Wikipedia you might not have caught the latest news [1]. Bad press from Aftonbladet and Expressen on our Prince Gustaf Adolf (talk) and Gustav V (talk). Read Expressen article.
  • A recent review of Swedish Wikipedia was also made by Sydsvenska Dagbladet, August 19th 2006. It quoted discussions on Bybrunnen (the Village Pump), and it had interviewed three prominent editors. The article started off in a non-flattering way by comparing Wikipedia to a public toilet run by pedants, but it became nicer by the end. The article can be accessed, in Swedish, at [2].

Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(Swedish)[edit]

After the debate on WP:HOCKEY about respelling Swedish people not using swedish characters I wrote a comment at the village pump that User:Francis Schonken made into a policy proposal. Please review, edit and comment. Stefan 01:00, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

A commendable initiative. But is it really necessary? I don't know. / Fred-Chess 17:25, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
If you want the names of swedes to be spelled without ÅÄÖ since that is how they are spelled most of the time (does not matter what how you spell inside Sweden, since it is very small), then no, did you see the debate at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Ice_Hockey/Player_pages_format#non english diacritics and how they started moving e.g. Börje Salming to Borje Salming and so on, obviously this is not that importaint, but still as a Swede i think English wikipedia is for all people speaking English, not for North Americans only and therefore we should spell people with their right name and redirect for 'english' spelling. If you read current Wikipedia:Naming conventions you should spell in the way a majority of English speakers would most easily recognize the name and that is not using swedish character. Nevermind the proposal is up. Stefan 03:58, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
