On this WP:WSS subpage, you can propose new stub types (please read the procedures beforehand!), as well as the reorganization and subdivision of existing stub types. You can also discuss anything else related to stubs on the talk page.
[edit] Proposing new stub types - procedure
Important: If you wish to propose the creation of a stub ARTICLE you've come to the wrong place. If you don't have a username yourself, please go to WP:AFC for proposing a new article. If you already have a username, you can create the article yourself. If you don't know how, add {{Helpme}} to your user talk page to request help from other editors. This page only deals with stub TEMPLATES and CATEGORIES; we cannot help you with creating articles.
| Proposing new stub types | ||
If you wish to propose a new stub category and template, please follow these procedures:
DO NOT place a proposal here for any stub type which has already been created and is being discussed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries or Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The proposal page is only for stub types that have not yet been created, and it is better to keep any discussion of such stub types in one place rather than splitting it between different pages. ^ . Good number means about 60 articles or more, or 30 or more if it is the primary stub type of a WikiProject, though this figure may vary from case to case. |
||
[edit] "Speedy creation"
A stub type may be proposed for "speedy creation" if it meets one of the following criteria:
- S1 - the creation of a category for which an approved upmerged template already exists and is now in use on more than 60 articles.
- S2 - the creation of an upmerged national-level template for a subject in which other such national-level templates currently exist (e.g., X-bio-stub, X-hist-stub, or X-geo-stub, where X is the name of an internationally widely recognised country) or other instances where a clearly established pattern of similar subtypes exists. The proposed topic may not be controversial in scope.
List speedy creation proposals in the same proposal listings as normal stub proposals below.
[edit] Proposals, February 2012
Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.
If (after approval) you create a stub type, please be sure to add it to the list of stub types. This page will be archived in its entirety once all discussions have been closed; there is no need to move them to another page.
[edit] NEW PROPOSALS
[edit] Telephone number stubs
Propose {{telephone-number-stub}} and Category:Telephone number stubs as child of oversized Category:Telecommunications stubs to hold over 150 'Telephone numbers in foo' national articles. --Qetuth (talk) 06:52, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Festival stubs
Propose reducing oversized category Category:Festival stubs with:
- {{Theatre-festival-stub}} and Category:Theatre festival stubs (~101)
- {{Arts-festival-stub}} and Category:Arts festival stubs (~90)
- {{Religious-festival-stub}} and Category:Religious festival stubs if reached (~60)
- {{Food-festival-stub}} (~50)
--Qetuth (talk) 13:05, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Edited to replace literary- with arts- after I realised Category:Literary festivals is a subcat of Category:Arts festivals --Qetuth (talk) 13:21, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- No opposition to the split, but template names as:
- {{Theat-festival-stub}} (as per {{Theat-stub}})
- {{Art-festival-stub}} (as per {{Art-stub}})
- {{Reli-festival-stub}} (as per {{Reli-stub}})
- SeveroTC 11:19, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
-
- Thanks. Actually, the art- stem is for visual art etc. Category:Arts festivals and Category:Art festivals are different categories. 'Art' covering visual art and photography, sculpture, 'Arts' also covering books and poetry and many misc festivals - that is perhaps unnecesarily confusing.
- How about reverting to my original (edited out) suggestion of {{lit-festival-stub}}, for literary and poetry festivals and book faires? It will probably not reach 60 transclusions on it's own, which is why I looked at the parent permcat. --Qetuth (talk) 12:27, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
- I think it's better. The trouble with -arts- is we don't have such a parent type (-art- as you mention being different). The most similar type to it is {{culture-stub}}, but Category:Culture stubs is a subtype of Category:Festival stubs anyway. SeveroTC 13:20, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Twin Cities, Minnesota geography stubs
Category:Minnesota geography stubs is currently at 724 articles, with not much for established regional areas in Minnesota. I propose a category based on the Minneapolis-Saint Paul-Bloomington MSA as defined in this article. Would be a parent-only category for:
- {{AnokaCountyMN-geo-stub}} (6 P)
- {{CarverCountyMN-geo-stub}} (3 P)
- {{ChisagoCountyMN-geo-stub}} (1 P)
- {{DakotaCountyMN-geo-stub}} (8 P)
- {{HennepinCountyMN-geo-stub}} (39 P)
- {{IsantiCountyMN-geo-stub}} (23 P)
- {{RamseyCountyMN-geo-stub}} (4 P)
- {{ScottCountyMN-geo-stub}} (6 P)
- {{SherburneCountyMN-geo-stub}}
- {{WashingtonCountyMN-geo-stub}} (5 P)
- {{WrightCountyMN-geo-stub}} (1 P)
I expect these are probably undersorted as {{Minnesota-geo-stub}} contains over 300 articles. Dawynn (talk) 16:13, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy creation of more AFL Bios by decade
- Category:Australian rules biography, 1930s birth stubs for {{AFL-bio-1930s-stub}} (77 transclusions)
- Category:Australian rules biography, 1910s birth stubs for {{AFL-bio-1910s-stub}} (67 transclusions)
- Category:Australian rules biography, 1900s birth stubs for {{AFL-bio-1900s-stub}} (67 transclusions)
- Category:Australian rules biography, 1890s birth stubs for {{AFL-bio-1890s-stub}} (75 transclusions)
- Category:Australian rules biography, 1880s birth stubs for {{AFL-bio-1880s-stub}} (98 transclusions)
- rename of Category:Australian rules biography, pre-1940 birth stubs to Category:Australian rules biography, pre-1880 birth stubs
Pre-1880 would have about 70 articles remaining, with still hundreds of untagged or unsorted stubs to come. --Qetuth (talk) 13:29, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
[edit] India structure templates by state
Think we could do with the following:♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:30, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- {{AndhraPradesh-struct-stub}}
- {{ArunachalPradesh-struct-stub}}
- {{Assam-struct-stub}}
- {{Bihar-struct-stub}}
- {{Chhattisgarh-struct-stub}}
- {{Goa-struct-stub}}
- {{Gujarat-struct-stub}}
- {{Haryana-struct-stub}}
- {{HimachalPradesh-struct-stub}}
- {{JammuKashmir-struct-stub}}
- {{Jharkhand-struct-stub}}
- {{Karnataka-struct-stub}}
- {{Kerala-struct-stub}}
- {{MadhyaPradesh-struct-stub}}
- {{Maharashtra-struct-stub}}
- {{Manipur-struct-stub}}
- {{Meghalaya-struct-stub}}
- {{Mizoram-struct-stub}}
- {{Nagaland-struct-stub}}
- {{Orissa-struct-stub}}
- {{PunjabIndia-struct-stub}}
- {{Rajasthan-struct-stub}}
- {{Sikkim-struct-stub}}
- {{TamilNadu-struct-stub}}
- {{Tripura-struct-stub}}
- {{UttarPradesh-struct-stub}}
- {{Uttarakhand-struct-stub}}
- {{WestBengal-struct-stub}}
- {{UnionTerritories-struct-stub}}
- We split many other countries by state so I don't see why not. SeveroTC 18:54, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Split of Category:Korean film stubs
I can see how this will most likely play out. Propose the following templates and category:
(There are 25 pages in Category:Pre-1948 Korean films, 17 pages in Category:North Korean films and 5 categories and 782 pages in Category:South Korean films) Dawynn (talk) 13:11, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Split of Category:Korean company stubs
[edit] Internet Meme Stub
A stub as {{internet-meme-stub }} or similar. I also propose protection for articles written under this as articles about Internet memes on Wikipedia tend to be vandalized or nominated for speedy deletions.
- A search for Internet memes with under 2500 bytes gave 44 Internet memes and 15 Viral videos, so plausible. Either Category:Internet stubs or Category:World Wide Web stubs could be parent. But it could be problematic - if a stub isn't clearly a meme, it doesn't revert to being an internet stub (it could be a song, or a picture, or a person, etc). --Qetuth (talk) 13:47, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Anime stub types
- 1. Creation of Category:Anime OVA stubs for {{anime-OVA-stub}} as a subcategory of Category:Anime and manga stubs. Currently, {{anime-OVA-stub}} and {{anime-film-stub}} both feed Category:Anime film stubs, which has now matured to have >90 instances of each template, but I think the OVAs would be better placed under the main category. (Also neither of the templates are currently listed in the main stub list, but I didn't relise that until I was done populating them)
- 2. Creation of {{anime-org-stub}}, and Category:Anime and manga organisation stubs if >60 articles, to contain the various companies, studios, distributors, societies, awards, or websites. I suggest -org- rather than -company- because the latter three aren't neccesarily companies.
- 3. Creation of {{anime-convention-stub}} for the ~40 convention stubs, upmerged to the above Category:Anime and manga organisation stubs if it's created, or otherwise the main Category:Anime and manga stubs
- 4. Creation of upmerged {{anime-music-stub}} for anime soundtracks, list of song in foo, and singing groups. I think about 30 at the moment but potential to grow.
- 5. Any ideas on the best way to subcategorise the manga stubs? There are over 500 manga stubs in Category:Anime and manga stubs, most purely for manga, others for manga/anime, or manga/game, or manga/novel, or so on, and looking at the Category:Manga subcats the best I can think of to draw some out of that pile is the 'by demographic' subcat tree, which seems in contrast to the anime having been drawn out into film/OVA/series. --Qetuth (talk) 06:40, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- Suppport 1-4. Not sure about 5 either, looks a bit tricky.
[edit] Proposals, January 2012
Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.
If (after approval) you create a stub type, please be sure to add it to the list of stub types. This page will be archived in its entirety once all discussions have been closed; there is no need to move them to another page.
[edit] Category:Kalinovik geography stubs
[edit] Category:1910s comedy film stubs
[edit] Split of Category:Norwegian politician, 19th century birth stubs
[edit] Category:Gacko geography stubs
[edit] Warsaw building and structure stubs
Propose:
- Category:Warsaw building and structure stubs ~140
- {{Warsaw-struct-stub}} ~95
- {{Warsaw-railstation-stub}} ~46
SeveroTC 14:51, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Rangpur Division geography stubs / {{Rangpur-geo-stub}}
[edit] {{TurksCaicos-sport-stub}}
[edit] {{HongKong-musician-stub}}
[edit] Category:Foča geography stubs
[edit] Category:Doboj geography stubs
[edit] Category:Pale geography stubs
[edit] Ski jumping stubs
64 articles currently tagged with {{asbox}}, so I propose {{skijumping-stub}} and {{skijumping-venue-stub}} (double upmerged to Category:Sports venue stubs) which are about a 50-50 split. Category:Ski jumping biography stubs would be a child cat. SeveroTC 10:47, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Gelechioidea stubs split
[edit] Latvian winter sports bios
Propose {{Latvia-wintersport-bio-stub}} which should get around 50 articles, and with {{Latvia-icehockey-bio-stub}} (34 transclusions) I propose Category:Latvian winter sports biography stubs. SeveroTC 12:51, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Weightlifting biography stubs
Propose the following templates:
- {{Bulgaria-weightlifting-bio-stub}}
- {{Colombia-weightlifting-bio-stub}}
- {{France-weightlifting-bio-stub}}
- {{Russia-weightlifting-bio-stub}}
- {{Turkey-weightlifting-bio-stub}}
COL in the main stub cat, BUL and FRA in the European one, RUS and TUR in both European and Asian. The Russia one could hit 60, if so: Category:Russian weightlifting biography stubs. SeveroTC 15:59, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Split of Category:Republika Srpska geography stubs
[edit] More winter sports splits by country
Lots of templates; categories unlikely so I will leave them for now:
- {{Norway-curling-bio-stub}}
- {{Sweden-curling-bio-stub}}
- {{Switzerland-curling-bio-stub}}
- {{UK-curling-bio-stub}}
- {{US-curling-bio-stub}}
- {{Canada-speed-skating-bio-stub}}
- {{Finland-speed-skating-bio-stub}}
- {{Germany-speed-skating-bio-stub}}
- {{Russia-speed-skating-bio-stub}}
- {{Sweden-speed-skating-bio-stub}}
All should be speediable. SeveroTC 12:47, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Cross-country skiers and biathletes
The following upmerged templates seem useful to add to the collection:
- {{Canada-crosscountry-skiing-bio-stub}}
- {{CzechRepublic-crosscountry-skiing-bio-stub}}
- {{France-crosscountry-skiing-bio-stub}}
- {{Italy-crosscountry-skiing-bio-stub}}
- {{Switzerland-crosscountry-skiing-bio-stub}}
- {{US-crosscountry-skiing-bio-stub}}
And:
- {{France-biathlon-bio-stub}}
- {{Germany-biathlon-bio-stub}}
- {{Norway-biathlon-bio-stub}}
- {{Russia-biathlon-bio-stub}}
I'm not sure if or how much of an overlap there is between these two sets so I will postpone proposing categories until they've been sorted. All speediable. SeveroTC 11:59, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
