Royal Opera House editathon

The Royal Opera House organised an editathon focused on Sir Frederick Ashton, the Royal Ballet's founding choreographer and one of the foremost figures in twentieth-century ballet, hosted at the Royal Opera House in central London on 22 June 2013. The day may provisionally include some form of behind-the-scenes tour, though we're still working on organising the details. Please do sign up now and keep the date free if you're interested!

We improved the coverage of Ashton and his works, which are not well represented on Wikipedia. Only around 15% of his ballets have articles, and the main biography had been neglected for several years (although it does exist in fourteen languages!). As well as subject expertise, the ROH provided books and material from their library and archive collections, including ephemera such as newspaper cuttings, photographs, and programmes; the archive holds a portion of Ashton's papers.

One of the ROH's ambassadors blogged about this event.
