WikiProject Charismatic Christianity

Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Charismatic Christianity. This is a large and growing subset of the Christian faith and Charismatic Christianity was chosen because both Pentecostalism and The Charismatic Movement have arguably narrow technical meanings, while Charismatic Christianity encompasses both. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

We need your help! The majority of the Charismatic Christianity articles are stubs or start class. There are so many big and small pieces you can help with so jump right in!

If you are passionate about creating or editing great content to fully cover the topic of Charismatic Christianity, if you want to explore this topic in more depth, or if you want to help keep the content accurate with NPOV, please join us by adding your name to the members list.

Adopt an Article

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.

Scope

This project will create a reliable and comprehensive guide to everything related to Pentecostalism, the charismatic movement and their offshoots and relatives. These articles should be included in the Category:Charismatic and Pentecostal Christianity or one of its subcategories.

Articles within the project's scope will include people (leaders, preachers, evangelists, theologians), places (churches, colleges), practices (tongues, prayer, spiritual gifts), concepts (teachings, doctrines, movements) and institutions (ministries, organizations, publications). The history of charismatic Christianity (pre-Pentecostal views of the gifts, the beginnings of Pentecostalism, the rise of the charismatic movement) as well as its contemporary manifestations (current preachers, revivals) will be included. There are existing reference books which also deal with the topic of Charismatic and Pentecostal Christianity. A list of the articles included in one of the more recent such reference books can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Charismatic Christianity/Articles. We acknowledge that there is, and will always be, significant possible disagreement regarding what are the more important articles to any project, but the list of articles in other reference books is a good place to start.

Potentially controversial inclusions

Some of the articles included in this project are not widely held beliefs and may be controversial to some, but they are included because they have important features in common with, or find their roots in, a form of charismatic Christianity. This can include people like George Went Hensley and Victor Paul Wierwille who are not considered part of mainstream Pentecostalism or the charismatic movement. The inclusion of these types of articles is not a judgment on whether they can be considered Christian or charismatic, but an acknowledgement that they have impacted the way charismatic Christianity is sometimes viewed by other faiths or denominations.

Departments

This project began because of a personal interest in aspects of charismatic Christianity and the observation that the current content on Wikipedia on this subject is of inconsistent quality. For example, there are many gaps (as of writing this, there is no entry for Charisma magazine (US) or the Fountain Trust (UK), for example) and many existing articles are poorly sourced or stubs written from a non-NPOV.

  • RHEMA Bible Training Center
  • The Hiding Place (biography) - added a "themes" section to the existing article. Although Pentecostalism is not mentioned in the text as such, some miraculous events occur, and ten Boom and her ghostwriters were/are Pentecostals.
  • Alexander Boddy
  • Derek Prince (not actually new, but I've just brought into this project)
  • Transformationalism
  • Colin Urquhart
  • Eddie Long Just added a previously existing article to the project. This pastor of a top mega-church is currently embroiled in a high profile sex scandal as well as a long term senate financial investigation but his biography did not belong to any clergy, Charismatic or Christianity related projects. Many of the available sources are from religious media sites and editors need assistance evaluating reliability, etc.
