Wikipedia:WikiProject Connecticut/Connecticut article guidelines

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Citing sources[edit]

WikiProject Connecticut accepts other project guidelines (such as WikiProject_Schools:What not to include) in all cases where the subject clearly falls under the other project, unless they clash with the "Unacceptable sources" listed below.

Unacceptable sources[edit]

In addition to the usual reliable source requirements, there are several specific sources that WikiProject Connecticut does not accept as they fall under Potentially unreliable sources, and/or Not reliable sources, making these the same as citing Answers.com, Associated Content or h2g2.

  • Patch.com : it is not a verifiable source per its own temps page [[1]] as "Patch makes no guaranty that such information is accurate and your use of the information we provide is at your own risk".
  • Stateuniversity.com : it is not a verifiable source per its own data page [[2]] as "we do not, as the publisher, guarantee or warrant the reliability or accuracy of any data on this website".

Settled issues[edit]

The following issues have been the source of some controversy and debate on Wikipedia, but as they have been proven to be the official positions of the State of Connecticut, there is no possibility for discussion on these topics unless the state changes its point of view.

Numbering of Governors and Lieutenant governors[edit]

WikiProject Connecticut follows the numbering system of the State of Connecticut, where the Colonial Governors of Connecticut are counted. Therefore, the first Governor of the State of Connecticut is Jonathan Trumbull, whom is listed as #16, and incumbent Dannel Malloy is #88. The numbering does not start with #32 because many of the first governors held the office repeatedly.

Oldest settlement in the state[edit]

Per the state's website, Windsor, Connecticut was settled in 1633 and is the oldest settlement in Connecticut. [[3]], [[4]] Wethersfield, Connecticut is second, being settled in 1634.

Part of New England or the New York Metro Area[edit]

Per the state's website, [[5]] Connecticut is both a New England state, and suburban to New York City.

Project tagging[edit]

Articles are to be tagged for WikiProject Connecticut assuming that they have some inherent rationale as to why they are of importance to the state. Therefore, the Connecticut Western Reserve is valid, as for 14 years it was a part of the state. Likewise, people whom were born, lived a considerable amount of time or died in the state are considered natives of Connecticut and may be included within the project.
