Wikipedia:WikiProject Television/Fawlty Towers task force

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This WikiProject Television taskforce has been formed to improve and organise information in articles related to Fawlty Towers. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page or see the to-do list below.

For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

Goals[edit]

  1. To create and expand detailed Fawlty Towers-related articles

Scope[edit]

This WikiProject's primary goal is to organise, improve, elaborate and expand articles relating to the BBC television situation comedy Fawlty Towers. This project would like to produce extremely well-written articles about this phenomenal television series. We would like to create information about this television series that will encourage more people to enjoy perhaps one of the greatest programmes of all time.

Structure[edit]

Episodes[edit]

All episodes must feature a similar structure based around the narrowing down of: Infobox/Synopsis/Cast/Plot/Trivia, which has taken its influence from the Doctor Who episode structures. All the twelve episodes (including the last two?) have now been created, and I hope to improve the standard of the articles already created by the inclusion of new facts and information that readers will find intriguing. Other related categories within episodes could include: Goofs and Crew – but they are a little unnecessary, so feedback and initiative would be most helpful. Pictures (screenshots) from the episodes (famous scenes such as: Fawlty hitting car with branch in "Gourmet Night", etc.) would enhance readability.

Characters[edit]

I have designated the time to create articles based around the characters: Basil, Sybil, Manuel, Polly and also The Ladies, Major Gowen, Terry, and a very, very crude List of Fawlty Towers guest characters! Hopefully we can improve the quality of these articles by adding information about the storylines, adventures and misadventures on screen as an addition to their background. A template (infobox) might be necessary for the Guest characters list, as well as accompanying pictures. As you may have guessed, I'm new to this lark – I am embarrassed to admit – so a group effort might be more appropriate. Teamwork is the operative word!

To Do List[edit]

To Do[edit]

  1. Improve the standard of the main Fawlty Towers article
  2. Add related pictures that will boost standard of articles
  3. Advertise this project to increase awareness amongst Wikipedia community
  4. Include in the List of Fawlty Towers cast members and episode cast lists (with name of actor) any speaking parts not credited, also any non-speaking parts named in the script (e.g., Lady Morris in "A Touch of Class"). In "A Touch of Class" I have added the Policeman who says "Sorry, Mr Fawlty" and restrains Basil from having a go at Lord Melbury. Who plays Chris, the 3rd hotel inspector, who has one line? Likewise the newspaper boy.

Done[edit]

  1. Create related stubs and WikiProject templates
  2. Create a page for each and every Fawlty Towers TV episode.
  3. Make an infobox for each episode.
  4. Convince at least 10 users to join the project.

New Wikipedia articles related to Fawlty Towers[edit]

Please feel free to list your new Fawlty Towers-related articles here (newer articles at the top, please). Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Main Wikipedia page. DYN has a 72-hour time limit from the creation of the article.

Adopt an article[edit]

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
