Guild of Copy Editors' requests page

The goal of the Guild of Copy Editors is to improve articles in the English Wikipedia that are tagged for copy editing using the {{copyedit}} template, and by maintaining the category of articles needing copy edit. This page is where you can list requests specifically for copy editing.

Instructions for requesters

To make a request, use the following format:

Comments ~~~~

  • Place new requests at the bottom of this page.
  • You may list up to two requests at any one time. This is enforced so every request can have a fair chance of being fulfilled within a reasonable period.
  • If you plan to nominate the article for Good Article, A-class or Featured Article status, check the length of our backlog and try to wait until the copy edit is completed before nominating it.
  • Do not place a {{copyedit}} tag on the article; doing so might result in multiple editors inadvertently working on the same article. Remove any existing {{copyedit}} tags from the article.
  • Requests may be declined if the article is:
  • Having your article copy edited by our team does not guarantee the prose will be considered acceptable by GA, A-class or FA reviewers.

Instructions for copy editors

  • Please ensure you are familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style and the expectations for editing for the GOCE outlined in our Step by Step guide. The simplified Manual of Style is here.
  • When you accept a request, place the {{Working}} template immediately beneath the request and sign your post with four tildes (~~~~) so other copy editors know not to accept it.
  • Do not accept more than one request at a time.
  • Articles that are potential Featured Article candidates should only be handled by experienced editors.
  • If you have accepted a request but cannot fulfill it for any reason, please amend it with either:
    • a note of the sections you have completed so someone else can complete the copy edit, or;
    • a suitable template: {{Not done}}, {{Partly done}}, or Abandoned (not a template!).
    • If the article is unstable, experiencing rapid development, an ongoing edit war or apparent ownership issues, open a discussion on Requests talk to inform project coordinators.
    • Acceptances that appear to have been abandoned will be checked after a reasonable period—usually one week after the timestamp. In cases of complete inactivity we will ask for an update on your talk page. If no response is received within one further week, the {{Working}} template will be removed so other editors may complete the copy edit.
  • When you have completed a request, add the template {{Done}} below the request and sign your post with four tildes (~~~~). Alternatively you can add the details of the request to the archive page and then remove the request here by blanking the subsection. Do not delete the original request without archiving it.
  • Please consider adding the template {{GOCE|user={{subst:REVISIONUSER}}|date={{subst:date}}}} on the talk page of articles you have copy edited.

January 2015[edit]

I'm aiming to take this article to GA status, and believe that it needs a copyedit. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 23:24, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Rwandan Revolution[edit]

I've been working on this for a while now, and consider it basically complete. I would like to do a GA or FA nomination soon. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 16:18, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Howard Hille Johnson[edit]

This article was previously selected for a Did you know? hook and was reviewed to Good Article status. I'd kindly like to ask for a copyedit so that this article could continue to Featured Article review. Thanks! Caponer (talk) 04:45, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

The Postman (film)[edit]

Requesting copy edit of Kevin Costner's 1997 film. The plot summary may be too long or excessively detailed, and the article may need to be made more concise. NeoBatfreak (talk) 08:41, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

(I have edited the above request to make it more clear and concise. No disrespect intended; I'm trying to make the request clear so that the requester gets a better result. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:28, 6 January 2015 (UTC))

Rizal Shrine (Calamba)[edit]

An article about an important cultural site in the Philippines. For future GA nom. Carlojoseph14 (talk) 02:45, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Narendra Modi[edit]

This article requires expansion in a lot of sections. A copy-editor familiar with his work would be more suitable.-- Marano fan 11:15, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

MaranoFan, only one section is tagged for expansion. If you expand it (and other sections) before this copy edit, you will end up with a better article. Copy editors typically do not expand articles; the opposite is more often the case, since many articles benefit from being made more concise. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:36, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

The Bash Street Kids[edit]

Should be straightforward. -Arb. (talk) 16:21, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

The article failed FAC due to prose not meeting the criteria. My grammar isn't that great so any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Erick (talk) 23:18, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

Guilty Gear X[edit]

I guess it's close to GA, but I'd like a copyedit before the GAN. Thanks in advance. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 20:11, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Sonic Adventure 2[edit]

Got to GA a month ago; considering FAC so it'd be helpful to have a copyedit. Tezero (talk) 17:36, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

I am guilty of making several hundred edits to this historic market town's page over the last 5 months, the last month has been mainly peer review and other recommendations. I respectfully request a copyeditor to cast their magic over the article. -- BOD -- 18:37, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Secret Mountain Fort Awesome[edit]

Passed as a good article nomination, had a peer review (albeit with one participant), and now I'm considering making it a featured article candidate. The sole peer reviewer suggested I come here before doing so. 23W 22:16, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

2014 Philadelphia Phillies season[edit]

A rather long article that I wrote, often in the wee hours of the morning, one game of a 162-game season at a time ... need some other eyes, particularly in regards to avoiding colloquialisms, jargon, number format, etc. Thanks in advance. Go Phightins! 16:42, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Bizarre, giant dinosaur for GA and FA. FunkMonk (talk) 20:58, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

This article is currently being GA reviewed, it will probably be nominated for FAC soon after passing, so a quick copy edit before (doesn't have to be thorough) would be appreciated. FunkMonk (talk) 15:48, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
It is now a GA. Will wait a few days before FAC, if anyone is willing to do this. FunkMonk (talk) 00:41, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Has been nominated for FAC some time now, but few comments yet, so still open for copyedit. FunkMonk (talk) 19:55, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Kill the Irishman[edit]

Hi everyone. I have already nominated this article for 'Good Article' status and it has failed. I have been working tirelessly to bring this page up from scratch to good article status. I need help with this article so that it can be brought up to the quality of a 'good article'. Basically, I need someone to help me to 'clean up' this article, so that when it is re-nominated for 'good article' status, it won't fail again. Thanks. Metal121 (talk) 23:09, 24 January, 2015 (GMT)

Crisis on Infinite Earths[edit]

Clean up needed. NeoBatfreak (talk) 23:37, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Steve Zakuani[edit]

I want to bring this article to FA status. One of the coordinators over there suggested another set of eyes on the prose since I tend to get a little sloppy. Any help would be appreciated.Cptnono (talk) 18:54, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Lips Are Movin[edit]

The article got delisted from GA status for "supposed" grammatical errors. I suppose that a GA would prove if there are any (and resolve any if found) grammatical errors. MaRAno FAN 09:56, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Comment: I recommend only experienced editors taking this one on, and that they carefully read the article's talk page before starting. Note also that as of this writing, there is a PR in progress. --Stfg (talk) 13:40, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

February 2015[edit]

Hungarian prehistory[edit]

The article needs a thorough and bold copy edit before its GAN. Thank you for your work in advance. Borsoka (talk) 05:29, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Zone of the Enders (video game)[edit]

The article needs some copyediting before a nomination. Regards, 16:53, 2 February 2015 (UTC)Tintor2 (talk)

Bill Cosby in advertising[edit]

Passed GA, twice nominated for peer review, but ignored both times, one of the times being before the recent assault allegations against Cosby. Nominated for featured article, ignored, and recently closed. I'm looking for any feedback about the article. -- Zanimum (talk) 00:03, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

A former featured article which has been downgraded. I spent a week on the article updating, adding and removing content, adding sources, etc., and I hope to bring the article back to its FA status. It would be great if anyone can give the article a copy-edit, especially since her 20th anniversary of her death is fast-approaching and is often a high-traffic article. Thanks and best, .jonatalk 04:22, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Greco-Italian War[edit]

This article is in the middle of a partisan [edit] war between Italians and Greeks. A good third point of view to fix the tone of the article would be great. Uspzor (talk) 17:46, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Note: This article is currently the subject of an edit war, and may not be suitable for copyediting. C679 22:27, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
The GOCE coordinators recommend checking this article's history (for stability) and Talk page before accepting it for copy editing. Also, it would be a good idea to post a new section on the article's Talk page before editing, to explain what you will be doing and that your work originates at the GOCE Requests page.
I have added the word "edit" in square brackets to Uspzor's request above, in order to clarify the request. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:53, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

List of people influenced by Selena[edit]

New article, hope to bring it to WP:FLC soon after it has been copy-edited. Thanks, .jonatalk 02:56, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

International Mother Language Day[edit]

An important article. Coming 21 Feb is the International Mother Language Day. --Tito Dutta (talk) 07:42, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Elliott Fitch Shepard[edit]

My first FAC of this article failed as I still had to work through problems in the first month, by which time the review was closed. I'm hoping this process will remove further problems for my upcoming renomination for FA. Thank you.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 02:21, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Oliver Kuhn[edit]

This was at GAN, and I reviewed it. I feel like it needs a copyedit both for prose fine-tuning and for tone. It has its good points, but it's the type of article that would be best if copyedited by someone outside of that realm of expertise. In other words, ideally a non-sports guy should CE this. Wizardman 00:39, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Night of January 16th[edit]

During a recent FAC nomination one of the reviewers suggested the article could benefit from a copyedit, primarily around the flow. RL0919 (talk) 02:27, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Marsh shrew[edit]

Experienced Guild Editors only please and preferably scientifically literate. Small mammal in the Pacific Northwest. Just promoted to GA. Request review prior to FA candidate submission. Thank you! --Gaff (talk) 06:07, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

Microsatellite instability[edit]

This is a really important topic for genetics and cancer studies, but the article is really messy. Grammar is poor, references are all over the place...desperately needs some GOCE TLC. Thank you in advance Jkokavec (talk) 13:03, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

I have cleaned up the references. I have done no copy editing. Any editor may take this article. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:30, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

This is an important article for dinosaur fans and experts, and current efforts are being made to improve the article for GA and later FA. Most of this article is about taxonomy/description, and if it were copy edited this might greatly improve chances of succeeding past these thresholds. Thank you in advance. House of Plantagenet[edit]

THis was given a copy edit as recently as early 2014 but as a result of a failed attempt at reaching featured article status has undergone a near total rewrite. Copy editing help to get this up to scratch before a second attempt would be gratefully received. It would be good to create an exemplar House of ... article. Many thanks Norfolkbigfish (talk) 16:24, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370[edit]

This article was recently promoted to Good Article and I'd like to bring it to A-class. The page has been viewed over 700,000 times in the last 90 days, including about 220,000 in 4 days when a plane crashed in Indonesia in December. The one year anniversary of the plane's disappearance is 8 March and given the mystery surrounding the flight, it will certainly receive a lot of page views. It will also receive a significant amount of page views if any debris or possible debris from the plane is found; since the priority search area will be completely searched by June, that will likely occur in the next few months. I hope that this doesn't seem rude to come here and ask for a copyedit to be done quickly, but it would be nice to have it done in time for the anniversary.

The article routinely receives copyedits that fix formatting and make small changes to the text; edits with tools like AutoEd have also been made frequently. What I am requesting is for someone to go through the entire article to fix any issues related to grammar or the MOS (units and use of italics, in particular) and, especially, to make the prose clear and concise. I have written or edited most of the prose, but I am not the most articulate writer and this is something that past copy edits (especially using tools/scripts) have not addressed. The Good Article review was not thorough and a discussion about the review was started (find "Another doubtful GA review" started 18 February after it gets archived); other editors did not feel it needed to be reassessed, but suggested "use a thorough copy edit" and to ask for that here.

A few notes that a copy editor should be aware of:

  • One section in particular that I think is confusing and needs to be better worded is "Response by air traffic control". I need help to make the prose more understandable. There was a lot of discussions between several area control centers and I think the main issue here is finding a better way to handle the names of the centers. That said, this section is important to highlight the confusion between the air traffic control centers in the area, which explains the four-hour delay between loss of communication and the start of the search. So the best way of describing this is: explain/highlight the confusion without confusing the reader.
  • The article should be written in British English, because that is the English variety most strongly associated with Malaysia. A user just fixed many spellings using AutoEd, so there are probably no issues with that.
  • In aviation, altitude is expressed in feet and distance is expressed in nautical miles. These units are used where appropriate (primarily in the "Disappearance" section), while the rest of the article should use appropriate SI units (kg, km, km2). This seems to be compliant with WP:UNITS.
  • I hope the writing is balanced between being understandable to a general knowledge and being encyclopedic and precise when presenting information (per WP:TECHNICAL). This is most relevant to the "Disappearance" and "Analysis of satellite communication" sections. Although more appropriate for a Peer Review and because a copy editor will be reading the article while likely unfamiliar with either field, I would really appreciate feedback if you think some content should be better explained for a general audience (but again, I don't want to oversimplify and lose important/relevant detail).
  • The inclusion of the year in dates is something that needs to be looked at closely. There are a lot of dates in the article, but not all include the year. Where is it appropriate to exclude the year?

This comment is long, but so is the article. Hopefully I've provided enough information to help a copy editor with issues that need to be looked at. If you want clarification about any content, don't hesitate to ask me a question, I would be very glad to help. AHeneen (talk) 18:27, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Stanley Hotel, Nairobi[edit]

New article rescued from CSD and AfD, hoping to go for GA, but needs c/e. Deunanknute (talk) 01:23, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Old article, I added ~90 refercences over three months and moved/nuked 40% of the article. It needs more trimming. If you work in language area, you might also improve in ways that I can not anticipate. It is a high-importance Wikiproject India article and top-importance Languages article. I wish to nominate it for GA. --AmritasyaPutraT 08:18, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
