Scope

• The project covers all articles about the subjects heraldry and vexillology and their history. It covers all articles describing flags, coats of arms, seals, and emblems as well as articles about heralds and vexillologists.

• Improve articles needing improvement (see Flag Stubs)
• Create missing images of flags and coats of arms
• Invite potential members
• Identify relevant articles and add {{WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology}} to their talk page.
• Identify articles needing creation
• Identify articles needing improvement
• Decide on capitalisation for national coats of arms. It was decided at Category talk:National coats of arms to change "Coat of Arms of ..." to "Coat of arms of ..." in article titles and this was done. However, it was not done, in many cases, in the first sentence of the article (and perhaps elsewhere in the article). See, for example, coat of arms of Australia, coat of arms of New Zealand, coat of arms of Northern Ireland, royal coat of arms of Scotland, royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. By extension, the "c" should not be capitalised either (except at the start of a sentence). Before changing all these articles, can we confirm that it should be "coat of arms of ..." and "royal coat of arms of ...". Nurg (talk) 01:25, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

When using these tags, if they are not already nation-specific please also add the relevant nationality tag, e.g. an article about an Italian coat of arms should be stubbed with both {{Italy-stub}} and {{Heraldry-stub}}. Doing so saves a lot of work for WP:WSS.

If you wish to see additional stub templates created it might be an idea to first consider if you know of 60 existing articles that could benefit from such a template since this is the standard requirement for new stub templates. If you do, please list your suggestion on WP:WSS/P. This process is used to achieve a consistent naming system for stub templates which makes them easier to use. Thanks in advance.
