Scope and goals

To develop and standardize articles on Illinois State Routes, according to the recommended article structure, below.

Highways to include

• All known numbered Illinois state routes
• Notable non-Interstate highways (Elgin-O'Hare Expressway, Kingery Highway)
• Interstate and U.S. Route state-level detail pages (U.S. Route 20 in Illinois)
• Lists of Illinois county highways (List of County Highways in DuPage County, Illinois)
• Historical road trails (Lincoln Highway, Cannon Ball Route)

Any and all ordinary Interstate Highways, whether two or three digits or entirely in the state of Illinois, are covered under WikiProject U.S. Interstate Highways. Please use the standards on those pages.

Categories

There are a few guidelines for which categories to put these articles in, but overcategorization is a definite concern. Place Illinois State Route articles in the following categories:

• Category:State highways in Illinois. Use the following sort keys:

• 1di and 2di highways: [[Category:State highways in Illinois|0xx]] where xx is the number of the route
• 3di highways: [[Category:State highways in Illinois|y|xx]] where yxx is the number of the route

• The category for each county the route runs through, i.e. Category:Tazewell County, Illinois.
• Avoid categories for each individual city on the route. Categories for major cities are acceptable.

Categories for notable highways but not Illinois state routes

Use these for things like Lincoln Highway or Kingery Expressway, not Illinois Route 1.

Most state-level projects have been folded into task forces as part of the continuing reorganization of USRD. More about this process at WT:USRD. There is currently a discussion taking place at WT:HWY regarding the potential use of coordinates in highway articles. Your input is welcomed. We did it! The 2011 stub drive has concluded.
