[edit] Scope

This is a WikiProject on elements of the Latter Day Saint movement, Mormonism, Latter Day Saint history, doctrine, practices, and other cultural effects inspired by Joseph Smith, Jr..

This project is closely related to Wikipedia:WikiProject Utah and Wikipedia:WikiProject Brigham Young University

[edit] Project Style Guidelines

See:

Some quick points to remember:

  • Articles wholly pertaining to the Latter Day Saint movement should be parenthesized "(Latter Day Saints)", unless the article name is unambiguous without the parenthetical.
  • Articles should not be limited to a single Latter Day Saint denomination, unless including the entire Latter Day Saint movement is impractical or awkward. For example, instead of "Restoration (Community of Christ)" or "Restoration (LDS Church)", you would call the article Restoration (Latter Day Saints).
  • In article names, references to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should capitalize the initial The and include a hyphen and a lower-case "d".
  • In general, use the term Mormon or its derivatives only when referring to people or denominations with historical ties to Utah-based The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Deadlinks are discouraged as they tend to attract POV material on religious subjects.
  • Apply the LDS-stub boilerplate message at the end of stubs.

[edit] Timelines

There's a timeline based on LDS (1850s-on) and Mormonism (centuries and 1820s-1840s) in general. For specific dates (eg, June 1, 1944) you should link normally. You should also show a link to the timeline somewhere on the page (probably in "see also" or in See ... bits) as appropriate. You can start here to see the timeline: 19th century (Mormonism).

All date-related information relating to Joseph Smith, Jr. and his immediate family can be included in Chronology of Joseph Smith, Jr..

[edit] Articles in Progress

Besides the work below, there are dozens of LDS stubs that need to be filled out. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement/Articles needed and Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement/Requested stubs.

To prevent duplication of effort, if you are working on an open task, PLEASE sign your name beneath the article's listing below, preferably with some sort of comment, so we know who is working on what, and what still needs to be done.

Once the task you have been working on is complete, please remove it from this list, and from LDSinfobox.

Please put NEW requests at the BOTTOM of their respective list.

[edit] For Peer Review

Could someone join the discussion regarding the intro to said article before another edit war happens? I have tried to make it as neutral as possible, but would appreciate any other voices. ~Araignee (talkcontribs) 02:20, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Create/Collaborate

[edit] Cleanup

  • Cove Fort - A lot of new sources were added but they need to be incorporated into the text, and citations need to be correctly formatted.

[edit] Expand

  • Temple Riders - It is a motorcycle club of LDS members (and non-members "prospecting" to enter the LDS). Article just started by myself very recently, and since the club has chapters in many states and a few other countries, I thought anyone here who knows anything about the LDS's own motorcycle club really ought to add to it. --Let Us Update Wikipedia: Dusty Articles 10:23, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Accuracy disputed

Second Anointing Buerger is unreliable source see analysis. Most of the article seems to cite his work. Should find more accurate information or remove the article.

[edit] Neutrality questioned

  • Joseph Smith, Jr. - It is requested that this article be reviewed to make it more neutral. A Google search of "Joseph Smith" brings this article up as the first search result, so it is important that is accurate and balanced. Please, help review and edit this article.
  • While working on the Joseph Smith page, please help cleanup citations that violate Wikipedia guidelines, and please do add quality sources as references.
  • Privileging the LDS church over other Mormon groups. In general, wikipedia articles about Mormonism have a tone that assumes Mormon = LDS. This not only ignores the existence of the other denominations within Mormonism but also can be confusing when dealing with historical facts and religious doctrines. There are many doctrines peculiar to the LDS church that are not part of the rest of the Mormon movement.
  • Brevity is the test of neutrality.

[edit] Script-generated to-do lists

[edit] /Articles needed

553 red links compiled from nearly all of the articles in the Category:Mormonism hierarchy. I've listed the Mormonism-related articles that employ each red link because many of them are obvious mistakes that should be fixed on the page. Some should also be redirects to prevent similar mistakes in the future. I've also listed the number of main namespace links-to.

Many of these have nothing whatsoever to do with the Latter Day Saint movement, but I believe this list is interesting. Many secular links need to be fixed anyway.

Make intentions to write articles known on the project pageCool Hand Luke 07:36, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] /Requested stubs

This list compiled from Category:LDS stubs, listed in order of number of links-to, excluding wikilinks from user pages and wikipedia namespace. Note that the LDS-stub template causes every LDS stub to have a self-referential link. Therefore, every article has one less link-to than this list shows. Thus, articles listed her have one less link-to than it would appear. Therefore the articles with "1" link-to are in fact orphans. Cool Hand Luke 07:36, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

We ask that members make at least one contribution to a LDS-related article per month—helping with the Collaboration of the Month is a great place to start. If you no longer want to receive monthly messages, please remove your name from the participation list. You do not need to be a member of a Latter Day Saint movement denomination to join.

You may add the userbox for our WikiProject to your userpage using User WPLDSmov. If you would like to be listed in the members category without using the userbox, add to your userpage.

[edit] Help wanted

I have been looking for images of the Current and past First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve that can be uploaded to commons.wikimedia.org/ for use on there respective Wikipedia pages. There are places where PD images are required. I have managed to make a big dent on that list, with the exception of the current Quorum of the Twelve. See List of members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (LDS Church). I've exhausted Flicker, including e-mail people to ask them to change the license tags, and have e-mail a large number of blog owners. However, I have hit a dead end. Dose anyone have photos they own who are willing to upload them to commons or know of of PD photos of these people --ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 22:10, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
