Welcome to WikiProject Mind-Body. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of practices considered part of Mind-Body, which is a multidisciplinary topic under the domains of medicine, sports (martial arts, specifically), culture, philosophy and religion. The Wikipedians who have joined this project are interested in the organization of information and articles, specifically as they apply to the crossover between evidence-based medical research and application of healing mind-body practices such as Qigong. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic.

If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page.

Introduction[edit]

Research-based evidence of the efficacy and effectiveness of Mind-body practices for medical applications have only recently been accepted by the medical community, but as of yet the specific requirements of each practice have not yet been determined. As a result, these mind-body practices need to be documented and investigated in their entirety in order to determine which aspects provide the healing capacity. Our goal is to work together as a group to organize the terminology and relationships between different aspects in this field of study. Our goal is not to control either the terms or definitions of all the different aspects of Qigong and other Mind-Body practices, but rather to generate agreement among all of us on our use of the terms. This will enable us to investigate the scope of our understanding, and to broaden people's awareness of the specifics of the field. We will...

  • Start with a brainstormed list of all related topics (done)
  • Organize the brainstormed list into categories and subcategories (done)
  • Review existing Wikipedia pages for each term on the list (starting with Qigong web page and currrently working on that one)
  • Recruit specialists in the field of each category and subcategory
  • Identify holes and create pages where necessary
  • Edit pages where necessary, trying to eliminate contradictions and confusion
  • Review existing research in the field to determine common elements and standards
  • Iterate between discussions with experts in the fields and terminology used in the research to simplify and consolidate, seeking agreement among as many constituencies as possible on the use of terms.

Starting with this list, we will attempt to create some kind of organization. We are currently working on the first one, Qigong.

Guidelines and Goals[edit]

  •  ?

Our goal is to create a comprehensive, coherent, and understandable collection of references to Mind-Body practices and Integrative Health, focusing primarily on Qigong, which we consider to be foundational for many different types of Mind-Body practices. One of the outcomes for which we are hoping is agreement among scholars and researchers so that terms and definitions in the field can be simplified and globally understood. We are seeking acceptance and understanding among mainstream medical and health practitioners, and would like to be able to start identifying scientific evidence for the efficacy and effectiveness of Mind-Body practices such as Tai Chi, Qigong, Massage Therapy, Yoga, Acupuncture, Holistic Medicine, etc. We would like to separate ourselves from faith healers and fringe science. We wish to focus on identifying the activities, behaviors, and practices from the Mind-Body practitioner world that either have already, or are quickly developing, evidence for the benefits. Then we would like to review all of the pages described to ensure that they properly project this science-based focus on the practices described, accurately depicting what science can and cannot prove about the health practice, and what is currently under investigation.

We might look at these pages as a group. We might choose to request certain people to review certain pages based upon their expertise. As a group we want to ensure quality connections and understanding BETWEEN the different topics so that there are no contradictions or counter-indications to our goal.

We'll conduct live discussions on this the fourth Sunday of every month at 605-475-4333 code 919728. In between live discussions, please use the talk pages to expand your point of view. We are seeking agreement and consensus among the largest number of people, and will continue our conversations until everyone has had a chance to share their opinions, listen to other's opinions, and seek mutual understanding of the best way to achieve our goal. Since our time on the call is limited (we will try to restrict those conversations to 30 minutes), we would appreciate it if you would use the talk pages to share your opinions whenever possible.
