Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to rugby league football. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you have a passion for rugby league and wish to make Wikipedia the world's foremost reference on rugby league like the rest of our participants then add your name to the list below. Then read the section below labelled How to help or inquire on our talk page. For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices. You may sign up for the project on the Participants list.

|
The aim of the project is to create a pool of consistent and attractive articles that are easy to find and read, which can be achieved by maintaining and creating:
- the rugby league category and sub-category structures
- templates, infoboxes and other tools to help wikipedia display and make better use of content
- articles related to rugby league
- Portal:Rugby League and Current sports events up-to-date for international matches and provincial competitions.
- Recent deaths and Current sports events up to date when notable rugby league players pass on. (As usually there are newspaper obituaries written when a person dies, it is also an opportunity to write up and improve the Wikipedia article on that player.)
- Coordinate efforts and peer review articles
- Expand the biographies on every man who has played a Test for the four main nations (Australia, England, France and New Zealand) as well as Great Britain.
- Increase the number of well written rugby league related articles
- Expand and improve other rugby league related articles

Check regularly on the unassessed list of articles and rate their importance and quality.
[edit] Peer review
The peer review department conducts peer reviews of articles on request; this helps to obtain ideas for further improvement by having contributors who may not have previously worked on particular articles examine them. Project members are invited to submit articles to the department in lieu of using the generic peer review process. You can submit an article for peer review or assist in reviewing articles here.

[edit] Participants
Project participants are listed at the participants list. Feel free to add your name and the teams you support.
[edit] Active members
- Active members are those who have contributed to the WikiProject's talk page in the past three months.
- Semi-active members are those have not contributed to the WikiProject's talk page, but have contributed to rugby league articles in the past three months.
[edit] Inactive members
- Those who have not edited on a rugby league article in three months are placed on this list manually. Editors may not retire other editors - this must be done by the editor in question. Feel free to place yourself back into the active members if returning from a break.

[edit] How to help
- Create — The most important thing is information first. If an article has not been written on a topic which has much available information, then write it.
- Clean up — Many articles, especially when they are first written, can be messy, incomprehensive and even incorrect. You can help by tidying up such articles with respect to what is correct and the wikiproject's guidelines on formatting articles.
- Feature status — Bringing an article to feature status is an advanced job possibly not suited to a novice wikipedian or novice writer. This requires turning a good article into an article of outstanding excellence.
The above also applies to templates, categories and other wiki items that make finding rugby league information easier.
You can find articles that you like to edit by browsing the rugby league category.

[edit] Sandboxed Articles
Members are encouraged to make good use of a sandbox, preferably as user sub pages, when making large editions to pages or creating new pages. If you're currently working on some articles, give the rest of the projects members a sneak peak here.

[edit] Terminology
- The Game
- Rugby league shall be written in lower case, such as rugby league, except when starting a sentence, such as in this one.
- The use of the more official term rugby league football is acceptable.
- Terms such as football and rugby may be used where the meaning is entirely unambiguous. i.e. to call the game football in New South Wales and Queensland articles is acceptable but if there is any ambiguity involving rlf and soccer, rugby union or Aussie rules then a non-ambiguous term, such as "rugby league football", should be used.
- Participants
- As with references to the Game itself, terms involving potentially ambiguous words, such as "football coach", should be amended to "rugby league football coach" or "rugby league coach" to ensure clarity where appropriate.
- References made to footballers or players are acceptable. i.e "...are entertaining footballers" or "Wigan players"
[edit] Summarise and link
Particularly when writing history of rugby league, be careful not to duplicate information. The standard way to deal with possibly duplicate information is to keep one major source of that information and wherever else it is useful, summarise and link to it, in the following manner.
- Place the link under the heading of the section you are writing and before any text.
- Type refering link in italics, as follows, Main Article: Link to article using {{main|Link to article}}
- If necessary or relevant, also link to a specific section in the article
You can see an example here.
However, it may be that yours is a complicated subject and for the reader to get the whole picture with as little reading as possible, it is recommended you write light paragraphs that link to the relevant articles in the text. The history section in the rugby league article is the perfect example of this.

[edit] Glossary
I find my self starting to use special terms to refer to things on wikipedia. If you do too, add them here so you can use them in discourse. This may facilitate or hamper communication. I guess we'll find out.
WP-item
- This term has be coined as a catch-all phrase for 'things' defineable through wikipedia such as articles, templates, categories, infoboxes etc. Pronounced wikipedia item or wiki item?
