[edit] Infobox
See also: Infobox discussion, Project template discussion, Release dates.
| Template |
Example |
Information |
| {{Infobox video game}} |
|
Infobox VG is in articles about video games that have been or will be released for single or multiple platforms. The image used should be game box art and no other non-free images should be present.
For console games, the fields engine, media, input, and requirements should generally be omitted. For games with a PC version, it is preferable to populate input, engine, and requirements. Never list a computer game as a "PC" game—list the applicable operating systems instead.
The fields for director, producer, designer, programmer, artist, writer, and composer should be used to list people who played key roles in the development of a game. However, their inclusion should be carefully measured not to make the infobox overly long.

| {{Video game release}} |
- JP 12 February 2012
- NA 12 February 2012
- PAL 12 February 2012
- EU 12 February 2012
- AUS 12 February 2012
|
Used for release dates, which creates superscript abbreviations. Other country codes are listed here. |
| {{Video game ratings}} |
|
Used for ratings, which creates links to the article for the rating board. |
| {{vgy}} |
2007
|
For dates in video-game related articles where the day-of-year is not known, the year should be linked to "YYYY in video gaming". The template creates this wikilink easily: {{vgy|2007}} will automatically produce the year and create a link to the appropriate article. |

Copyright tags
| Template |
Example |
| {{Non-free game cover}} |
 |
This image is cover art for a video or computer game, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the game's publisher or developer. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of game cover art
constitutes fair use under United States copyright law. Other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information.
To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
Usage:
This template accepts the platform(s) as parameters to better categorize the tagged image.
{{Non-free game cover|Macintosh|Linux|Windows}}
or
{{Non-free game cover|Macintosh}}
or just
{{Non-free game cover}}
if the platform is unknown. (For the platform names you can use, see the subcategories of Category:Video game covers.)

| {{Non-free logo}} |
 |
This is a logo of an organization, item, or event, and is protected by copyright. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, of logos for certain uses involving identification and critical commentary may qualify as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. Certain commercial use of this image may also be trademark infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content and Wikipedia:Logos. |
To the uploader:
- This tag is not sufficient on its own. You must also include the source of the work, all available copyright information, and a detailed non-free use rationale.
- Use of the logo here does not imply endorsement of the organization by Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation, nor vice versa.
- Please do not use this template to tag non-free icons of computer software. Such items should be tagged with {{Non-free computer icon}} template.
Regarding uses other than in the original article:
- A detailed non-free use rationale is required for every article the logo is used in. Check the non-free use criteria and do not assume that existing rationales can be simply copied and pasted, as they may not necessarily apply.

|
| {{Non-free game screenshot}} |
 |
This is a screenshot of a non-free copyrighted video game or computer game, and the copyright for it is most likely held by the company or person that developed the game. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
- for identification and critical commentary on
- the computer or video game in question or
- the copyrighted character(s) or item(s) depicted on the screenshot in question
- on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law, as such display does not significantly impede the right of the copyright holder to sell the copyrighted material, is not being used to generate profit in this context, and presents ideas that cannot be exhibited otherwise. See Wikipedia:Non-free content.
To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
Note: This tag should not be used for screenshots of free software; use the license tag corresponding to the software's license instead, optionally alongside {{Free screenshot}}. |

Non-free fair use tags
| Template |
Example |
| {{Non-free use rationale video game cover}} |
| Description |
This is the cover art for {{{Article}}}. The cover art copyright is believed to belong to the distributor of the game or the publisher of the video game or the developers of the video game.
|
| Source |
The box/cover art can or could be obtained from the distributor.
|
| Article |
[[]]
|
| Portion used |
The entire cover: because the image is cover art, a form of product packaging, the entire image is needed to identify the product, properly convey the meaning and branding intended, and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the image.
|
| Low resolution? |
The copy is of sufficient resolution for commentary and identification but lower resolution than the original cover. Copies made from it will be of inferior quality, unsuitable as artwork on pirate versions or other uses that would compete with the commercial purpose of the original artwork.
|
| Purpose of use |
Main infobox. The image is used for identification in the context of critical commentary of the work for which it serves as cover art. It makes a significant contribution to the user's understanding of the article, which could not practically be conveyed by words alone. The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing the work, to show a primary visual image associated with the work, and to help the user quickly identify the work and know they have found what they are looking for. Use for this purpose does not compete with the purposes of the original artwork, namely the creator providing graphic design services to relevant concerns and video game marketing to the public.
|
| Replaceable? |
As cover art, the image is not replaceable by free content; any other image that shows the packaging of the item in question would also be copyrighted, and any version that is not true to the original would be inadequate for identification or commentary.
|
| Other information |
Use of the cover art in the article complies with Wikipedia non-free content policy and fair use under United States copyright law as described above.
