Welcome to the assessment department of WikiProject Zoo! This department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's zoo, aquarium, and aviary articles. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work, and are also expected to play a role in the WP:1.0 offline release program.

The assessment is done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Zoo}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Zoo articles by quality, which serve as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.

Instructions[edit]

An article's assessment is generated from the class parameter in the {{WikiProject Zoo}} project banner on its talk page (see the project banner instructions for more details on the exact syntax):

{{WikiProject Zoo | class=??? }}

The following values may be used for the class parameter:

Articles for which a valid class is not provided are listed in Category:Unassessed zoo articles. The class should be assigned according to the quality scale below.

Before assigning B-class, all B-class criteria must be met. The template includes the following parameters that allow checking off the assessment criteria for this class:

  • B-Class-1 – Is the article suitably referenced, and are all major points appropriately cited?
  • B-Class-2 – Does the article reasonably cover the topic, and not contain major omissions or inaccuracies?
  • B-Class-3 – Does the article have a defined structure, including a lead section and one or more sections of content?
  • B-Class-4 – Is the article free from major grammatical errors?
  • B-Class-5 – Does the article contain appropriate supporting materials, such as an infobox, images, or diagrams?

For articles in need of immediate attention, you can add the attention parameter:

  • attention – "yes" if the article requires immediate attention; this should be used sparingly.

Article selection for offline releases[edit]

Criteria for inclusion in offline releases are calculated starting with the assessment created by the project. The criteria are shown on the editorial team article selection page. You can see current scores using toolserver. This page shows C-Class Zoo articles, but includes selection criteria above to let you change the settings if you wish.
