Alaska politicians convicted of crimes, Ted Stevens[edit]

I'm not sure if we should add Ted Stevens to Category:Alaska politicians convicted of crimes. His conviction was false, and it was completely put aside, so legally speaking, he was never convicted. However, he was convicted until the charges were offset, and this costed him his U.S. Senate seat, in one of the largest political scandals in the 21st century. I don't know if he should be added on there, or if he doesn't qualify? Mycranthebigman (talk) 12:11, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ted was investigated for years, indicted, tried, and convicted during the Bush II administration. His conviction was overturned, not because he was innocent, but because there were questions about sufficient Brady disclosure. Eric Holder decided that the case should be dropped, but never expressed any doubts about his guilt. There were six state legislators who were convicted, five being sentenced to jail and one in poor health to house arrest, where he died. The guy who bribed Ted, the richest man in Alaska, had bribed the others as well, in a widespread conspiracy. He died a couple of months ago but never changed his testimony. JC Penney just after the Alaskan earthquake.[edit]

I remember being there just after the Alaska ice cream and seeing the JC Penney Building ripped in half with several stores on one side being higher than the other half. I haven’t seen any pictures like that. Does anybody have any pictures of the JC Penney Building in that condition? 1ToughOldMan (talk) 03:27, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The U.S. Army and USGS, among many other federal entities, took photos. Not all of them have made their way onto Wikimedia Commons, though I believe there are a few others there besides the one shown above. There was also a multi-part book series consisting of various scientific reports, copiously illustrated. I've seen them on Google Books, but they might not be freely available because they were copyrighted. Hope this helps. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 20:53, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Broken official websites for cities[edit]

A lot of Alaskan cities have links to official websites in their infoboxes which start with "www.commerce.alaska.gov/dcra/DCRAExternal/community". These most seem to be broken and might need to be updated. Kk.urban (talk) 19:39, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Most probably just need to be removed. It's better to have nothing than have a dead link. Several have moved their official site to a facebook or other platform. --ARoseWolf 19:57, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The DCRA went to a more interactive map that displays where the community is located and what its specifics are so all of these individual community links are obsolete. --ARoseWolf 20:03, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Kk.urban, I believe I have dealt with most of them but will continue checking to make sure they are all resolved. I will go through each again to see if the communities have a more official website to add back. Thanks for bringing it up. --ARoseWolf 20:07, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Kk.urban (talk) 20:08, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
