Creation of this page[edit]

This page was split from Wikipedia:Userboxes/Computing due to that page exceeding the number of templates that can be displayed on a page. The result was that userboxes at the bottom of the page were "disformatted" along with the {{WP:UBS}} template. Splitting the page corrected this problem. If at some point in the future userboxes fail to be displayed at the bottom of the page then it may be time to split this page! - Ahunt (talk) 19:43, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Height problem for "User linux" userbox[edit]

The {{User linux}} userbox is 52 pixels high, which means it doesn't stack properly in a rectangular block of userboxes. Take a look at an older version of my own user page for an illustration of the problem. I tried to fix the userbox to make it 48 pixels high, but what I tried didn't appear to work (so I promptly rolled back my own edits). Could someone with more experience working with userboxes take a look at this? Thanks. Richwales (talk) 03:14, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I lowered the size of the image to 35px - have a look and see if that does it for you! - Ahunt (talk) 11:05, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That does look better. When I measure the userbox now, however, it appears to be 47 pixels high. Will any problems result from its being 47 high, rather than 48? Richwales (talk) 18:09, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think, so but give it a try and see if it stacks right. Looking at your user page it seems to be playing nicely with the other boxes! - Ahunt (talk) 18:20, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The P2P heading seems to be in the wrong place[edit]

The P2P heading seems to be in the wrong place, it looks ok in the source. figure that one out. --smadge1 (talk) 02:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing that out - it was a bit baffling. As you mentioned, in the code it looked fine, but didn't display properly. The problem was a spelling error in one of the "usbkbottom" templates above it. I have fixed it and the page displays correctly now, I think. - Ahunt (talk) 10:15, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page Move[edit]

On 17 April 2009 User:Garrettw87 moved this page Wikipedia:Userboxes/Software to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Computers/Software with an edit summary stating: "moved Wikipedia:Userboxes/Software to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Computing/Software: this belongs under Computing and could theoretically be included in that page. and for sake of length I think it should be a subpag".

I have moved it back to where it was. In examining the issue I can see no reason to relocate the page, the move just gives the page a longer address and causes many redirects to the new page, including from the UBX template, without accomplishing anything at all.

The fact the subject of software is a subset of the subject of computing is not relevant to Wikipedia userbox project page navigation. The comment "could theoretically be included in that page" indicates that the editor had not checked the history of these two pages or read the note above under "Creation of this page". This page was created because Wikipedia has a limit on the number of templates that can be included on one page. The original computing page exceeded that limit and it broke the page. This page was created to split the page and solve the limit problem - Userbox pages will all eventually run into this limitation as more boxes are added and will all have to be split.

Please discuss future move proposals here in advance to gain consensus that the move is benefical. - Ahunt (talk) 13:39, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vista Hater userbox[edit]

I have removed this userbox (twice) now because it does not comply with Wikipedia:Userboxes#Content_restrictions, in that it is "incivil" "inflammatory or divisive". I don't like Vista any more than you do, but thems the rules. - Ahunt (talk) 02:52, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Windows 8[edit]

Is anybody working on Windows 8 user boxes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewman327 (talkcontribs) 19:22, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see one on the list on this page (duplicated below), but that seems to be it. The reviews seem to indicate that even the most dedicated Windows fans don't like Win8 much, so that might explain the lack of interest. That said, if this box doesn't suit you perhaps we can make up a new one, if you let me know what it should look like or say. - Ahunt (talk) 00:06, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Text Editor Userboxes[edit]

Are they all broken? Sadface :q! --SfRattan (talk) 09:53, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is a limit to the number of transclusions that can be put on a page and it seems we have exceeded the limit, resulting in the effect you see there. Let me see if I can fix it by splitting the page. - Ahunt (talk) 19:16, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
