Getting the ball rolling[edit]

I'm currently configuring WP 1.0 bot to create assessment tables for the project; in the meantime, our initial primary goal is tag as many pages as possible with {{WikiProject Apps}}. —Theopolisme (talk) 21:08, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Gotcha. I'll see if I stumble upon any on AfC, although most of them are declined. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 22:57, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

What if we pomp-up an article for GA status? Would be a nice first project. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 23:32, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Sounds good. How about Instagram? Plenty of coverage and such; just needs a cleansing, copyedit, and filling out. Game? —Theopolisme (talk) 01:20, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
Instagram sounds good. The Anonymouse (talk | contribs) 01:27, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
Great! It'll be my first, so I'd appreciate any instructions! FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 21:53, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Perhaps Category:Apps should be kept now that the project's come along nicely, if anyone would like to pitch in in that discussion. It'd be a good starting point to have a few articles to start with. I'll tag them talk pages! FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 23:00, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Invitation Template[edit]

We could use an invitation template for recruiting members, could someone please make one? XapApp · talk · contribs 23:54, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

I knocked something together at Template:WikiProject Apps invitation...Thoughts? —Theopolisme (talk) 00:40, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
It's great, except we really need to find an image to represent the WikiProject—an image that would be good for a user box, the WikiProject assessment banner, and an invitation. The Anonymouse (talk | contribs) 05:03, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
Does a picture of the App Store icon not work? Numbermaniac - T- C 09:00, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
@The Anonymouse - I totally agree. @Numbermaniac I think it would preferable to avoid copyrighted images...perhaps we could find some sort of "app" glyph? —Theopolisme (talk) 13:07, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, File:Google Play symbol.svg is in the public domain, for one.-- 01:36, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
I really like that! Take a look at {{WikiProject Apps invitation}} to see that image in action...thoughts? —Theopolisme (talk) 10:20, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
It's a very curious image. It suggests freethought in my mind. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 21:56, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
Yes check.svg Nice. But is it in a box of some kind? Numbermaniac - T- C 22:34, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── A what? You mean, like {{WikiProject Breakfast invitation}}? I find boxes utterly distracting on my talk, but I can of course implement one if that's the consensus. —Theopolisme (talk) 22:45, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Yes, but not that color. Preferably something in a more greyish color like the one here Numbermaniac - T- C 00:23, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
Updated with "whitesmoke" color from the iOS invite, which I absolutely love. —Theopolisme (talk) 00:29, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, looks nice. The border color even matches the icon! The Anonymouse (talk | contribs) 00:45, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
Awesome. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 00:46, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
Looks great, fine with me, great job! ^^ XapApp · talk · contribs 04:01, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Google Earth[edit]

As I was going through the apps on my iPad and adding the relevant articles with the Wikiproject Apps tag, I stumbled across Google Earth, and, after looking at the article, I thought that this could be nominated for GA-class status. How should this be done? Numbermaniac - T- C 03:01, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

You can follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Good_article_nominations/Instructions#Nominating. —Theopolisme (talk) 10:51, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! Numbermaniac - T- C 11:37, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Project Status[edit]

The WikiProject seems to have become inactive so I was wondering what we should do about it. Should we attempt to revive it? Also, on the WikiProject's original proposal page, User:ViperSnake151 placed an oppose vote and suggested a Mobile Software task force within WikiProject Software instead of a WikiProject. So do any of you have any thoughts on this? Thanks, ~XapApp(Talk·Contribs) 11:06, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

I would think this ought to be revived. -- (T) Numbermaniac (C) 02:56, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps it should be merged to WP:WikiProject Software as a taskforce ; I note that WP:WikiProject Cellular devices is also inactive. -- (talk) 05:52, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I found this WikiProject today and would like to chip in. The main issue is that no one knows this exists. It's possible for smaller WikiProjects (like Wikipedia:WikiProject Television Stations) to get tons of participants, so it's not impossible to get more people involved. The question is, how? Nick1372 (talk) 18:59, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
You're right, no one really knows of its existence. Maybe we could 'advertise' our project on related project talk pages, such as WikiProject Computing. Or we could advertise it in our signatures...? -- t numbermaniac c 07:21, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Hmm, Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide/WikiProject has helpful information. Please read through it if you haven't already. ~XapApp(Talk·Contribs) 10:30, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Bringing WikiProjects to the attention of wikipedians[edit]

PROD for List of endangered languages with mobile apps[edit]

List of endangered languages with mobile apps was PRODded with reason given as "Really?" (Not sure what that means.) Cites are available for each app in their respective language articles, but I don't have time to add all the cites right this minute. Any ideas on ways to improve this list from the app perspective? Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Folks, just curious if there is an WP:Infobox for this Project? I don't know what your attitude towards the use of them, but I know that I personally appreciate them in articles as a quick summary of the topic. Plus it would be a really convenient place to have a screen shot of the app. Thanks, --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 23:55, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live![edit]

WikiProject X icon.svg

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.
