Sample biography article

Regarding this edit: the page had been organized with guidance at the top and a sample article at the bottom, containing inline notes and sample text. I'd prefer to keep the sample article, which can be copy and pasted to a new article and modified, and not intermingle entire sections of guidance, such as the "Infobox" section. If there is no objection, I will restore an intact sample article. I will look for a new way to present the information, so at the moment I don't intend to just revert the previous change. MLB records

Jason Varitek caught an MLB-record four no-hitters. It's not a career highlight an MLB record?. It's not just catching no-hitters, the four caught by Varitek are an MLB record, not just catching no-hitters. That's a career highlight! an MLB record! Nolan Ryan's page career highlights: MLB RECORDS: 5,714 strikeouts, 7 career no-hitters. You can start a conversation at WT:BASEBALL on this topic if you like. Note the current consensus on what to include in the "Highlights" section was reached in various discussion threads (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball/Player style advice#Links to corresponding discussion threads for links). Based on this discussion, I do not believe there would be a consensus in favour of including catching no-hitters in the highlights section; although this is a personal career highlight, the editors have not agreed to include highlights that are not reflective of the player's relative skills, other than a World Series victory. (While there is certainly a degree to which a catcher's skills contributes towards a no-hitter, there are many other factors involved that are at least as significant, such as the defense of the team in the field.) isaacl (talk) 15:13, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Specific mention of "clubs" in the infobox?

I know that the infoboxes will present the stats to show membership of the 500 home run club, 3,000 hit club, 300 win club, 3,000 strikeout club, and 300 save club, but should these links be presented in the highlights section as well? I think so, since the non-baseball savvy person won't necessarily know that they've reached such a threshold, and the infobox is a good place to show it. I suggest that this topic might be better raised at WT:BASEBALL, in order to get a wider audience (this page has fewer than 30 watchers). Since you mention the infobox, I assume by "highlights section" you are referring to this section in the infobox (and not the "Career accomplishments" section in the article). Personally, I think it is beyond the purpose of the infobox to explain the norms of the statistics it presents, and so would not favour adding this information. isaacl (talk) 21:51, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

Mention of cycles in career highlights and awards

On the guidelines on this page the infobox does not mention cycles under what you should add to career highlights. There are multiple pages with the cycle on their career highlights as there are many without it. I think we need to come to a consensus on the decision. I have recently begun an editing war with user Yankee10 over multiple pages on this issue and I want to bury it. Please post you opinions. My opinion is that it isn't notable enough for inclusion, especially considering we don't even want to include All-Star Game MVP's (I still don't get that one but whatever). Hitting for the cycle is a nice little highlight, but always happens a few times a year and a player is generally not remembered for hitting for one. If it got more coverage like a no-hitter or something, than I would probably think differently, but it's not.--Yankees10 19:00, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I just noticed the change on Stephen Drew's page after the career achievement of hitting for the cycle was removed. My personal opinion is that hitting for the cycle should be included in career achievements. This is based on the fact that there is an entire article devoted to players who have hit for the cycle. This is much like keeping an article for other notable achievements such as no-hitters and perfect games. I will extend my argument to include the achievement of an Immaculate inning as well. Platinum Glove Award as a Highlight

I've seen numerous athlete pages that includes this award, such as Matt Chapman's and Nolan Arenado's pages. I've tried to add this onto Adrian Beltre's page, but the edits have been reverted, citing that the Platinum Glove Award is not one of the achievements that have received consensus for inclusion in the highlights section for athlete pages. I ask that this is changed, where the Platinum Glove Award is included as a highlight. While the Platinum Glove Award does not have its own wiki page, its significance as an achievement (can put it on the same mantle as the NFL DPOY award) should warrant its inclusion. 2601:640:8A02:5420:F0F6:C599:B072:F438 (talk) 03:48, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

I'd so no, given that it's a fan award, and there is already a more prominent defensive award listed. The list should be compact. However, definitely can add sourced text to a bio's prose for this. —Bagumba (talk) 03:55, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
