[edit] Request for Comment: Capitalization of common names of animal species
| Hello WikiProject members and others. As part of a discussion at WikiProject Animals, a number of editors have indicated that the presentation of the current guidelines on the capitalization of common names of species is somewhat unclear.
We wish to clarify and confirm existing uncontroversial guidelines and conventions, and present them in a "quick-reference" table format, for inclusion into the guidelines for the capitalization of common names of species. Please take a moment to visit the draft, and comment at talk. Your input is requested to determine whether or not this table is needed, and to ensure that it is done in the best way possible. Thank you. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:43, 16 September 2011 (UTC) |
[edit] Domestic cats compared to big cats
Why do domestic cats eyes close to a slit in bright light and big cats eyes close to a dot like human eyes?
I have often wondered why there is a difference between the two types of felines?
Thank you

[edit] Changing the taxonomy of cats
It was started some time ago, but has yet to be resolved (2 years of taxonomy need be reviewed). — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō)ˀ Contribs. 23:54, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Page move for capitalisation
I think an admin needs to start moving the cat articles from title case to sentence case article titles, i.e. Leopard Cat -> Leopard cat. I think only WP:BIRDS and some dragonflies, moths, and butterflies articles are the only animals still capitalised, see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (fauna). Cheers, Jack (talk) 01:09, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- If editors in this wikiproject think that articles like British Shorthair should be kept capitalized, they should make a note in the wikiproject page saying so, then add a link in Wikipedia:FAUNA#Capitalisation_of_common_names_of_species. --Enric Naval (talk) 11:53, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Notability guidelines for cat breeds?
Hi everyone, I just came across the article for York Chocolate Cat, and I'm tempted to send it to AFD for failing GNG, but I wanted to check here first to see if anyone had some insight on notability guidelines for cat breeds (since I'm not particularly familiar with this topic area). As far as I can tell, there is almost no coverage in books (11 Google Books results total, most of which are junk titles whose content is lifted straight from WP), and general Google search results seem to bring back only low quality user-generated websites. Thanks! SheepNotGoats (talk) 17:29, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- More specifically, the article says that the breed was granted champion status by the "Canadian Cat Association" and the "Cat Fanciers Federation", but I don't know enough about cat breeding to know if these organizations are notable enough to merit inclusion of the breed.
