Translation to confirm gender identity

Hey all! An IP address added to Nanae Chrono that they are FTM transgender citing Chrono's Twitter bio. Can any fluent Japanese speakers confirm that this source does indeed confirm this because it seems like an important detail if it does decisively confirm this. Yes, looks like it. It says FTMゲイタチ. FTM is the same as in English. ゲイ is gay, タチ is the same as 攻め, which is what's traditionally thought of as the male role, the pursuer, and similar to "top" in English, too. Erynamrod (talk) 11:38, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

Bingo Stadium

Sometimes the corresponding article on Japanese Wikipedia has sources that can be used but in this case there's only a primary source being cited. That source, though, does have to do with the naming rights of the stadium, and it is from January 2022. I doubt there's going to be much if anything about this stadium written in English in secondary reliable sources written (e.g. The Japan Times), and whatever there is might just be mentions related to events held at the stadium and not about the stadium itself per se. There might be stuff in Japanese in local or regional papers, and probably the best way to find that is to Google the stadium's Japanese name. Absent finding one or two pretty good reliable sources per WP:NBUILDING, this article might be a good candidate for a WP:REDIRECT. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:04, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Korean or Japanese nationality

I'm working on several articles on celebrities in Japan, and I'm running into issues with determining the nationalities of several of them, particularly the ones of Korean descent. This article from Toyo Keizai talks about several "Koreans living in Japan", but should they be listed as Korean or Japanese (i.e. Hanae Kan)? lullabying (talk) 01:25, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

If there are no reliable sources to confirm a particular nationality, nationality shouldn't be listed at all. The Japanese Wikipedia says that Hanae Kan's nationality is South Korean, but gives no direct citation. However, the Tōyō Keizai article says 在日韓国人女性, and in this formulation kankokujin is commonly a reference to nationality. This article says that she is a citizen of South Korea. Questions

Hello, and while I am trying to think of a way to translate the JP article 仮乗降場, I am stuck on what should be the EN name. I'm sticking with "Temporary Station" right now, but then it would duplicate with 臨時駅. If a person better at Japanese (Due to my background, I am horrible at Japanese.) can suggest a better translation I appreciate it. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 05:08, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

@AlphaBetaGamma: I'm not sure a topic on that particular subject matter would be something considered WP:NOTABLE enough to justify a stand-alone English Wikipedia article be written about it. Even the Japanese Wikipedia article ja:仮乗降場 seems mostly unsourced content: one Asahi Shimbun source is cited seven times and there's only one possibly reliable sourced (a book) cited; the rest of the "references" are actually what Wikipedia refers to as WP:SRF#Explanatory notes formatted as citations. Just because an article exists on another language Wikipedia doesn't necessarily mean it should exist on English Wikipedia; it's quite possible it shouldn't exist on the other language Wikipedia. Since English Wikipedia has the most articles and the largest user community out of all of the other language Wikipedias, its policies and guidelines (particulary those related to Wikipedia notability) tend to be applied more rigorously than similar policies and guideline of other language Wikipedias may perhaps be being applied. So, before you go about translating this or any other Japanese Wikipedia articles into English, you might want to take a look at WP:OTHERLANGS because there's no point in doing so if you're unable to clearly establish the subject matter meets one of Wikipedia's notablity guidelines. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:49, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

More specifically, it turns out this was a particular term used in the days of JNR (the nationalised railways) to refer to an administrative category, which in (English) English might be called "Temporary halt"; one level below "Station". 臨時駅 really sounds like a station built for a specific special purpose, such as a stadium used for a major event over a short time. The 仮 in 仮乗降場 is more like "well we have this thing for the time being, one day we might build a proper station". So I certainly do not think this deserves a separate article, though it might be mentioned if there is a list categorising types of station in Japan. Imaginatorium (talk) 07:34, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
