I think you should create WP:TOKYO and WP:KANTO to redirect to this TF. (talk) 13:57, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Done. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:44, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

First things[edit]

  1. We need to find some way to mark each WikiProject Japan template for a Tokyo-related subject as for this taskforce
  2. I'm not certain if this should cover the entire Kanto region, or just Tokyo.
  3. It would be great to add {{portal|Tokyo|PrefSymbol-Tokyo.svg}} to the "See also" sections of any and all Tokyo-related articles :) WhisperToMe (talk) 16:49, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
You can now mark a page by adding |tf=Tokyo to the {{WPJ}} template, like this: {{WPJ|tf=Tokyo}}. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:38, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh, and I think it should cover Kanto, but focus on Tokyo. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:46, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
So, which Kanto articles should get the template and taskforce label? WhisperToMe (talk) 03:29, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Hmm...I think the best answer to this is that when someone sees a Kanto article that seems relevant to Tokyo, he or she can just tag it. That way we will avoid overtagging stuff (and perhaps annoying people) while we aren't too limited to articles that are specifically Tokyo. So...tag away! --C S (talk) 02:38, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
I tagged Narita Airport (in Chiba Prefecture) - and perhaps train lines that *serve* Tokyo can be tagged, even if the train lines also serve other places. WhisperToMe (talk) 09:30, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

When can it become a WikiProject?[edit]

I think that eventually this Taskforce should evolve into a WikiProject. When can it do so? What are the requirements? WhisperToMe (talk) 01:06, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi. AFAIK there are no requirements. But unless you want it to die a quick death like many other failed WikiProjects, it is unwise to make it a full project unless there is a critical mass of volunteers. Most WikiProjects barely have enough people to keep a decent level of activity. --C S (talk) 01:26, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
I see, so we should wait until this project gains a critical mass. That will work. :) WhisperToMe (talk) 01:49, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
And at it's current rate, that will take quite a lot of time. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:02, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

This got me curious about all the failed WikiProjects and I found the category for them: Category:Inactive_WikiProjects. I should also add that of course somebody had to go and make a WikiProject to be the lord of all WikiProjects, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council. They give some advice and recommendations on when you should consider forming a WikiProject and how to go about sustaining it, etc. So it may be useful for you to look at, but the advice on starting one is along the lines of what I said -- make sure you have enough interest to keep it going! --C S (talk) 02:58, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

They aren't really the "lord" of all the projects. They're more there to be a helpful resource if you need them. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:17, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
I am surprised that WikiProject Frankfurt is inactive. It's a big business city. Maybe when I am not as busy I can make it active? WhisperToMe (talk) 09:31, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Anyway, another idea I have is that if Tokyo becomes a WikiProject, we could make a 23 special wards taskforce to focus on the former "Tokyo City" area. It may be a long ways away, but it's an idea I have. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:18, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

To-do list[edit]

Probably one of the most important things for a taskforce is its to-do list, which we don't have. So I created the section to get the ball rolling. The Tokyo article itself may only take some work to get up to FAC level. I suggest adding a crime section. --C S (talk) 02:03, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

My first project in this taskforce[edit]

So, for my first project as a member of this taskforce, I've decided to tackle the List of tallest buildings and structures in Tokyo and try to make it a Featured list. So far, I think I've cleaned it up quite a bit, especially considering the state it was in previously. If anyone wants to help with the list or help making stub or even start-level articles for many of the buildings in the list, I'd really appreciate it. --TorsodogTalk 05:12, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

I'll help out a bit. I have some questions, which I'll leave on the article talk page. How about if we list as a task on the currently empty to-do list, "improve tall building material", which would not only include your list but related articles on the buildings. --C S (talk) 10:12, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Question about lists of articles on the task force[edit]

Is there a place where articles connected to the task force are listed? I helped start the Paris task force and we are trying to determine the same thing. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:32, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

You can look in Category:WikiProject Japan Tokyo taskforce, though it may take several hours before anything appears there. Categories take a while to populate once created. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:39, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it looks like the current banner template doesn't add categories to sort the articles into once tagged with a task force. For example:
|tf 10=
 |TF_10_LINK = Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/Tokyo task force
 |TF_10_NAME = Tokyo task force
 |TF_10_IMAGE = Tokyo tower2008.JPG
  |TF_10_SIZE = 40px
 |TF_10_TEXT = This page is supported by the Tokyo task force.
 |TF_10_MAIN_CAT = WikiProject Japan Tokyo task force

"WikiProject Japan Tokyo task force" needs to be added in order for the article to be place in the category. This probably will need to be done for all other task force tags and their respective categories. --TorsodogTalk 14:53, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Photo req: Former hq of ANA and JAS[edit]

All Nippon Airways and Japan Air System used to have headquarters at Haneda Airport in Ota, Tokyo: * JAS: JAS M1 Bldg. 5-1 Haneda kuko 3-chome, Ota-ku, Tokyo 144-0041 Japan

  • ANA: 3-5-10, Haneda Airport, Ota-ku, Tokyo 144-0041, Japan

Would anyone like to photograph the buildings? (Assuming they are still there) WhisperToMe (talk) 05:27, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Tsuki no Misaki[edit]

Excavator has completely wiped out all the former information in this article and refuses to accept any of it into his version. He's removed all the pctures showing locations in this area as well. Please come and participate in a discussion to determine what needs to be done here as I don't think that completely removing all the prior content is a good thing. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 09:24, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

I've made a meetup page for Tokyo for anyone interested in trying to setup a meetup. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:08, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
