[edit] Invitation to assist in adding donated content: GLAM/ARKive

I am the Wikipedia Outreach Ambassador to ARKive, who have kindly agreed to donate an initial 200 article texts about endangered species from their project, to Wikipedia, under a CC-BY-SA license. Details are on the GLAM/ARKive project page. The donated texts include many about marine wildlife. Your help, to merge the donated texts into articles, would be appreciated. Guidelines for doing so are also on the above page. Once articles have been expanded using the donated texts, we are also seeking assistance in having those articles translated into other languages. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, on the project's talk page, or my own. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 15:14, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Comment: Capitalization of common names of animal species

[edit] ID needed

I took these at the market. Are they well-known? Pls give me the species name so that I can add it to the image description.

Many thanks. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:33, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Anna, you probably should ask that in WP:WikiProject Fishes, if you haven't already.-- OBSIDIANSOUL 02:25, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] New user

I am finding my way into Wikipedia and have been recommended by an editor to introduce myself on this talk page. I am a semi-retired marine biologist who has researched crown-of-thorns starfish, giant clams, pearl oysters and aquaculture, and published books on each of these. I may contribute substantial editing to each of these entries in Wikipedia and perhaps on some other tropical marine biology topics. In fact, I have successlully done some editing of 'Crown-of-thorns starfish'. However, it is a deterrent to consider adding substantial text or even a new topic that one has spent a considerable period preparing and then find it unacceptable. Is there a way to present and discuss proposed substantial editing and why it is proposed? Probably this is outlined in the Wikipedia instructions, but I am having difficulties in assimilating and integrating all the instructions. 130.102.158.16 (talk) 01:59, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I have replied on your talk page.-- OBSIDIANSOUL 02:25, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
