Project directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. Good Resource
I recently came across http://tnmaps.tn.nic.in. It lists all the towns and many villages in Tamilnadu and puts them into category (Panchayat Village, Taluk, Block etc.). Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. A More Broader WikiProject on Tamil heritage
Hello everybody,
I would like to bring to your attention a suggestion to create a WikiProject Tamil Heritage. WikiProject Tamil Heritage will cover everything from language, literature, dance, martial arts, history, and more. I see that there are a couple other Tamil WikiProjects started. Perhaps we can have them under WikiProject Tamil Heritage? WikiProject Tamil Heritage will also cover on Tamils in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and elsewhere. Please let me know what you all think. User:Bakasuprman's ethnic slur on people of Tamil Nadu
See User:Bakasuprman's insulting remark on User:Rama's Arrow's talk page against people of Tamil Nadu. [1]. "It made more sense than you trying to teach the buffalo back in Tamil Nadu to read the Bhagavad Gita." He compares people of Tamil Nadu with buffalo apparently for their dark skin. We shouldn't allow such racial taunts inside Wikipedia.

Articles to expand
I posted this message at the Classical Tamil page, just looking for broader coverage here:
I've started a few articles relating to Sangam age history and am trying to see if more content can be added to them to make them reviewable. Not to mention the lead section and the general narration that need lot more work. Please edit these articles, as you see fit:
- Economy of Ancient Tamil Country
- Agriculture in Ancient Tamil Country
- Ancient Tamil Religion
- Early Pandyan Society
- Early Pandyan Government
- Early Pandyan Kingdom
With more content, each article above can stand on its own (for ex: the religion article needs more write up on Buddhism, Jainism and Animism). Once we have some more articles on Arts, Geography and Politics of this period, they can also rolled up into Ancient Tamil country.
The Pandyan articles most probably are generic enough to be called "Ancient Tamil...." but I sourced them from Pandyan-related books so I titled them that way. Lotlil 14:15, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Railway Time / Madrass Time
Hi all. I am currently preparing an article on Railway Time. This is a generic piece covering the background history to RT, the introduction of RT in different countires including India, the implications of RT on society and culture. I have identified that there is an existing page called Railway time which is blank and has a redirect on it to Madras Time. I would therefore like to remove the redirect, upload this article to the Railway time page and add links from it to amongst others, the Madras Time page. I am therefore coming to the Tamil Nadu Group to gain your comment on this. Please could someone from the Group let me know that there are no issues in me doing this. I am not I should add an expert on Railways or Time but have an interest in Local History and Science and have long been intrigued by the story of railway time. I have done some reading/ research and feel its a story worth recording. So I would very much welcome input on the page from TN project members about railway time in India and others on the at present incomplete 'article in progress' of course once loaded. Dravidian parties
Hey chaps! I am a bit confused on the way Dravidian parties to be spelt in Tamil. I have put it as திராவிடக்கட்சிகள் but should it be திராவிடக் கட்சிகள் as two separate words? Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 04:20, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- good work Wiki San Roze , as far as i know Tamil திராவிடக்கட்சிகள் is the right way if spel't as a single word but if you wish to split it then it must become திராவிட கட்சிகள் , that க் must not be present if the word isn't spel't in single ( if my Tamil isn't good i really feel sorry for the same , you are very well welcome to comment on it ) . --@ the $un$hine . New articles
I have made a new feed for the New Article bot. The bot reads all the new articles for a day and puts suspected Tamil Nadu-related articles into WikiProject Tamil Nadu/New articles.
The list of rules are in AlexNewArtBot/TamilNadu, there is also the log on the AlexNewArtBot/TamilNaduLog explaining the rules that sent an article to the search results (the log is cleared every day, so try to look into the history of the log). Please contact me if you are interested in the fine tuning of the rules

There is currently a dispute on the talk page of the article in question relating to whether the falls are in part within the boundaries of the state of Karnataka, as well as in the state of Tamil Nadu. Any party who would be able to present clear evidence that Karnataka has made some sort of territorial claim on the area of the falls themselves is more than welcome to indicate as much, as the luck of such clear, reliable, verifiable, information is the nexus of the current discussion there. WP:INDIA Tagging with TinucherianBot
TinucherianBot can automatically tag articles with {{WP India}} Banner as {{WP India|class=|importance=}} to the talk page of articles without the project banner. It can also add the workgroup paramaters like "|tamilnadu=yes|tamilnadu-importance=" etc ,if needed. The currently supported workgroups are Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bengal, Goa, Himachal Pradesh , Karnataka , Punjab,cities, Cinema, Literature, Protected Areas of India, History, Politics states, Geography,Maps,Districts and Tamil.

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! You may have noticed from my Userpage that I have concentrated my Wikipedia editing on Protected Areas of Tamil Nadu. I have generally avoided Tamil Nadu, but have just started Tamil Nadu#Environmentalism.
- I have recently developed comprehensive Lists of Environmental Organizations and Resource Persons in Tamil Nadu which other editors objected to as a stand alone article. Please see: User_talk:Singularity42#Tamil_Nadu.23Environmentalism and Talk:Environment_of_India.
- Some have suggested that it be merged with Environment_of_India#Tamil_Nadu, but I think it would be best added to Tamil_Nadu#Environmentalism.

Removing subcategories for FA
I have removed several subcategories per Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian states and the WP:FA examples of Karnataka and West Bengal. I have made some grammatical edits and switched and added some images but not removed any content. However, content of History, Culture and Economy needs to be drastically reduced to be seriously considered for FA. WikiProject Indian states recommends that sections should not exceed 4 paragraphs. Article for inclusion under Wiki Project Tamil Nadu

Pls consider including My article for inclusion under WikiProject Tamil Nadu. This article is all about our Govt of Tamilnadu's Subsidy company TamilNadu Newsprint and Papers (TNPL), a company which is world wide known for paper manufacturing using only Bagasse as raw material. Articles need some expert attention
There are two articles floating about: one named "Pugalur" and one named "TNPL Pugalur". The second article seems like it might originally have been created to discuss specifically the large paper mill run by TNPL at the village named Pugalur, but it has since morphed to discuss the village rather than the paper mill, as there is already an article about TNPL elsewhere. The first article appears to be about several different places all covered under the name "Pugalur". I have suggested a merge of the two articles, but that idea has been rejected. I don't understand the reason for the rejection, because the editors who have rejected the idea do not write in very clear English. As an American, I don't know enough about Indian geography or place names to understand the specifics involved, so I'm asking someone with better knowledge of the area to look into the articles and see if a merge is needed, or a renaming of one or both articles. Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide.
