WP 1.0 bot announcement
This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 04:06, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Licensing of Etihad Airways headquarters
I'm trying to figure out whether the Etihad airways head office picture would be considered to be non-free due to the lack of Freedom of Panorama in UAE law. If so, I'll add a fair use rationale. If it is a free image, I'll move it to the Commons. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:25, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Unreferenced living people articles bot
User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.
The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject United Arab Emirates/Unreferenced BLPs<<<
If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.
- Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject United Arab Emirates/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
- There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
- If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 23:19, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Following a discussion at the talk page, I've recently made a series of edits which may or may not be considered controversial. I'd welcome review of my actions, and the chance to discuss this at the talk page or here (or, indeed, anywhere!)
Attention all - I m with a Yacklick provider in Dubai and it s a big rip off. They put a cap on your monthly data usage and the cap / limit is more or less reach once you have watched a movie on netflix or have been on the net for a couple of hours over a day or two. They ask me to buy a recharge "token" now so that I can reset the cap, each token is approx 25 $ (of course you can buy as many as you want). I have a 40 GB monthly data allowance, my cap is reached after using 4 GB within 72 hrs, make the numbers -- after charging me nearly 1300 US$ for a 6 month contract. Now that I want to terminate the subscription they are charging me 400 $ for the installation, 500 $ for the hardware and one month subscription another 200 $. So I ll get back approx 200 US ! Lost 1100 $. I dont know if these conditions apply in other countries but be aware. By the way: No VPN as the hardware doesn t work with any router which uses a VPN and the speed after the cap has been reached is 40 kb / s !!!!!
United Arab Emirates articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the United Arab Emirates articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

An Invitation From Sue Gardner
Dear Wikimedia Project Contributors,
I am the assistant to Sue Gardner, the Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation. Sue and I will be traveling to the United Arab Emirates in early December to attend and speak at TedxDubai on Saturday, December 4. While traveling in Dubai Sue would like to meet with local Wikimedians and other project contributors to learn about your community and to inform you about the Wikimedia Foundation. We find these informal meet-ups a useful way to gather groups of Wikimedians who may enjoy learning about the work of other contributors in their region, and to learn about the work of the Wikimedia Foundation. While in Dubai we plan for Sue to conduct press interviews with mainstream media and to possibility speak at a local university.
The reason I am contact you is to inquire if you are interested in meeting Sue and gathering with other Wikimedians during her upcoming visit. I plan to arrange a private location with light food and beverages in an open space for attendees to share and meet each other. If you are interested to attend or know other Wikimedia contributors who may be interested in attending please email me at email@example.com.
We hope to have the opportunity to meet you in December.

WikiProject cleanup listing
I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:28, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
This article could really use a photo. Does anyone have a camera and live in the area? Many thanks. 06:50, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
DUBAI MARINA PINNACLE
The construction of the Dubai Marina Pinnacle has taken more than 5 years. The potential owners of the apartments have been fortunate that the building is near completion and ready for hand over. http://www.newpropertytalk.com/ Other similar properties remain incomplete.
I have paid the full amount for 1 of the apartments and I live in Australia.
I am writing this post to communicate with other owners to try and get answers concerning the hand over. In particular, when will it be, what will be required, what documents to take, what costs, how long will it take. Furthermore, who has to be involved? My wife and I are named on the contract but do we both have to go to Dubai to sign for the hand-over? How are other people planning to manage renting their apartment out, if that's their intention.
This article has been subject of an edit-war for what looks like well over a year. I've full-protected it for a month and seek new, external input on the dispute. I've brought it here because the page is part of this Wikiproject. Thanks, — Scientizzle 13:44, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/sharjah-s-decency-law-takes-effect-today-1.425632 says: "(the 'ezar is the local national male underwear)." (of Sharjah) Do we have an article about this? Does the Arabic Wikipedia have one? WhisperToMe (talk) 19:12, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
WikiWomen's History Month
Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:United Arab Emirates will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in United Arab Emirates's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 21:50, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Help re Mahmood al/Al Zarooni
Hi, I'm looking for some advice re the Emirati racehorse trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni - is it correct to capitalize the "Al" in his name? By comparison we have Saeed bin Suroor with no capital. Any advice gratefully received, thank you. --Bcp67 (talk) 18:53, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Hello. Could someone from this WikiProject please take a look at the Aabar Investments article. Have been making some edits and added lots of information to it, so maybe it could use a better rating. Any feedback on improvement is appreciated. Thanks! Doge120 (talk) 13:36, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
