William Smith (born May 16, 1924 in Pu'unene, Hawaii)[1] was one of the most successful competitive swimmers in the United States in the first half of the 20th century. He was a four-time All-American on the Ohio State University swim team. He was undefeated in fours years of duel meet competition. He set seven world records and won fourteen National Championships: seven NCAA, six NAAU indoor and one NAAU outdoor.
