William Starr Miller II (October 26, 1856 - September 14, 1935)[1] was a prominent New York industrialist and real estate operator.

[edit] Biography

Born in New York City, William was a son of George Norton Miller I [2] and Caroline Tucker Chase (born 1831). It appears that William Starr Miller was named in honor of his father's brother of the same name who died two years before his birth.

William's parents George and Caroline were married on October 9, 1855 in Boston, Massachusetts. William's father George was a brother of William Starr Miller [3], who served as a Representative from New York in the 29th United States Congress. William attended Harvard University from 1874–1878, graduating with an A.B. degree in 1878. He then attended Columbia Law School, where he graduated in 1880 with an LL.B. degree. He was also admitted to the New York City Bar Association in 1880.[4] William's original business address was 39 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, New York.

William married Edith Caroline Warren (April 15, 1866 - May 17, 1944)[5] on April 28, 1886. She was a daughter of George Henry Warren (November 8, 1823 - April 8, 1892) and Mary Caroline Phoenix (born February 27, 1832). George H. Warren was one of the founders of the New York Metropolitan Opera.

William Starr Miller died on September 14, 1935, at his mansion located at 1048 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. William, his parents, his wife, and several of his other close relatives are all buried in Green-Wood Cemetery.[6]
