[edit] History

Wilson Station was opened in what was then the Borough of North York as the last station in the 1978 subway line extension north from St. George Station.

Wilson was the northern terminus of the Spadina line for eighteen years, but with the extension to Downsview Station in 1996, some of the bus routes have moved from the station.[1] An additional bus platform, not needed for the reduced number of buses, was mothballed and now serves a storage area, although in 2007 construction at the remaining terminal meant temporary use of the closed platform.

[edit] Architecture and art

Wilson was one of two Spadina line stations designed by the TTC's in-house architects (the other being St. Clair West).

A sculpture by Ted Bieler entitled Canyons is located at the mezzanine level.

[edit] Subway infrastructure in the vicinity

Northwest of the station is the Wilson Complex, opened in 1977, which houses the system's largest subway marshalling yard (it took over Yonge-University-Spadina line operations from Davisville yard in 1993) and bus garage (servicing most bus routes in north Toronto).

[edit] Nearby landmarks

Nearby landmarks include the southern end of Downsview Park (formerly Downsview Airport); large events at the park, such as visits by the Pope John Paul II and benefit concerts, have resulted in heavy use of this station.
