Winkies Castle is the oldest house in Marske-by-the-Sea[citation needed], North Yorkshire, England dating back to the 17th century. It was saved from being demolished by a former Master shoemaker, Jack Anderson, in 1968 who turned it into a community museum and bequeathed it to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council. The museum is now run by volunteers on a charitable status & is open from Easter Saturday to end of September Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays & Bank Holiday Mondays from 11.am to 4.30pm.
The house's name possibly comes from Jacks cat, named Winkie.Jack never lived there but the museum houses his collection of artefacts. The "Anderson Collection" comprises over 6,000 articles; including a two-headed lamb named "Bill and Ben".
The house has rotating exhibitions.
