Woolooware High is a comprehensive secondary school in the Sutherland Shire, Sydney, Australia. It prides itself on a high level of academic excellence, uniform and community relations. However, the school may be best known for their participation in performing arts, in particular the band, which recently completed a tour of Europe along with the school dance troupe. In Europe for 2 weeks, the band performed in the Vienna Music Festival, and scored third place. Past trips have included a tour of America, Queensland, and Tasmania, Australia.
Woolooware High is also well known for their participation in Performing Arts, having created school musicals such as Godspell, 'Fame', and a cabaret entitled 'A Night On Broadway', which was written by performing arts head teacher and band co-ordinator, Ray Avard. The school has also had success in the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge, producing performances such as My Fair Lady and Ramayana. Both had great success, each qualifying for the Premier Grand Final. Their most recent Rock Eisteddfod performance, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, came in 3rd place at the 2007 Open Grand Final. Woolooware High has also had close links with Sutherland PCYC since 2001, with a number of students taking part in their renowned Rock Eisteddfod entries. 16 Woolooware students participated in their 2009 entry, “Rosa Parks – Woman of Colour” which was co-director by an ex-student of Woolooware High. Sutherland PCYC was presented with the coveted gold CD for 1st place, along with 7 out of 9 main awards on the night. The team also received 2nd place in the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge National TV Special.
