The World Journal (Chinese: 世界日報; pinyin: Shìjiè Rìbào) is a Chinese language newspaper published in Vancouver, BC and Toronto, Ontario. The paper originally catered to Taiwanese Canadian readers, using transliterations used in Taiwan for foreign names. Despite differences between how words are transliterated in Taiwan and mainland China, however, the paper has subsequently come to be identified with Mandarin speakers in general.

The paper is published 7 days a week in the broadsheet format. News coverage includes international news, news from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and mainland China, business news, sports, entertainment, lifestyle, etc. Compared to the other two Chinese language dailies in Toronto, the World Journal is relatively strong in its coverage of Canadian news.

[edit] Supplements (magazines)

The World Journal publishes several weekly magazines. The magazines come free as a supplement with the paper, and are printed on newsprint instead of glossy paper.

The free magazines that come with the World Journal are:

  • Sunday — World Journal Sunday Magazine (世界周刊 Pinyin: shì jiè zhōu kān), a tabloid-sized news-and-entertainment magazine with substantial local content, including editorials on current issues
