Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing is a nursing specialty involved with the treatment of patients with acute and chronic wounds with evidence based practice as well as ostomy patients, who have had some kind of bowel or bladder diversion. The latter area of expertise covers bladder and bowel control and the associated skin care issues.[1] Nurses in this specialty are often referred to as WOCNs (wound, ostomy, continence nurses).
Certification is available in this specialty from the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board.
