Wren & Martin refers singly to the book High School English Grammar and Composition or collectively to a series of English grammar textbooks authored jointly by P. C. Wren and H. Martin. Written primarily for the children of British officers resident in India, these books were eventually used for native Indian children as well. The books were published in 1935, with a discussion of composition added later. The material in the books is largely based on The Manual of English Grammar and Composition by J.C. Nesfield.
The books in the series are Elementary English Grammar, A First Book of English Grammar and Composition and High School English Grammar and Composition.
The series of textbooks is still in use at many Indian schools. While semantic change and advances in theoretical linguistics have dated these books, they continue to enjoy considerable popularity.
