Originally founded in 1931,The Writers Bureau is a Distance Learning institute located in Manchester, England.

The Writers Bureau provides home study courses in creative writing, Journalism, Writing For Children, Writing For The Internet, Poetry and Writing Biographies, Memoirs and Family Histories.

The Writers Bureau has been granted accreditation by the Open and Distance Learning Quality Council (formerly the CACC) which was set up in 1969 as an independent body with the co-operation of the Secretary of State for Education. It is also a member of The British Learning Association.

The Writers Bureau publishes its own in-house newsletter "Freelance Market News" and an online resource guide "E-zee Writer" for students and professional writers.

[edit] Competitions and Awards

Every year, the institute hosts The Writers Bureau Annual Poetry & Short Story Writing Competition. A "Writer of the Year" award is given to the best student.
