The List of Commonly Used Characters in Modern Chinese (simplified Chinese: 现代汉语通用字表; traditional Chinese: 現代漢語通用字表; pinyin: Xiàndài Hànyǔ Tōngyòng Zìbiǎo) is a list of 7,000 commonly used Simplified Chinese characters in Chinese. It was created in 1988 in the People's Republic of China.

It is comparable to the Standard Form of National Characters in Taiwan.

In the standardized character forms, most noticeable is that they contain newly created regular script characters and many characters substituted for other characters. These are collectively called Simplified Chinese characters.

Among characters that are not newly created or substituted, most are orthodox variants. A few common vulgar variants have been adopted. For example:
