Time Warner Cable News Rochester is a 24-hour local cable news television channel based in Rochester, New York, and seen in that area and the nearby Genesee River and Finger Lakes regions. The Time Warner Cable News affiliate can be found on Time Warner Cable Channel 9 & 200 and available elsewhere on Channel 14.

History[edit]

The channel debuted on Channel 5 in April 22, 1990 as "WGRC" (Greater Rochester Cablevision), which produced Rochester's first 10 p.m. newscast, making it by far the oldest channel in Time Warner's Time Warner Cable News network. In 1992, the station changed to Channel 9, labeled itself as "GRC9News" and added a 7 p.m. newscast. Later, after Time Warner acquired cable franchise rights to the area, it was changed to just "R News" on July 4, 1995 and became a 24-hour news channel. In 2005, some of the station's operations were merged with News 10 Now, a sister station in Syracuse, New York, and Capital News 9, a sister station in Albany, New York. Like its sister stations in Albany and Buffalo, it airs on channel 9.

On August 4, 2009 at 5 a.m., R News became YNN Rochester (YNN standing for "Your News Now"), co-branding the station with its new Buffalo sister station YNN Buffalo. This branding was later expanded to the Syracuse (then YNN Central New York) and Albany (then YNN Capital Region) stations. On December 16, 2013, YNN was re-branded as Time Warner Cable News.

TWCN Rochester, TWCN Central New York, TWCN Buffalo and TWCN Capital Region also share news content with NY1, the Time Warner Cable local cable news television channel in New York City.
