Yamanashi (山梨市 Yamanashi-shi) is a city located in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. In spite of the name, it is not the capital of the prefecture, which is Kofu.
On June 1, 2011, the city had an estimated population of 37,927 with 14,453 households. The total area is 289.87km².
The city's temples include Seihaku-ji.

The city was refounded on March 22, 2005, when Yamanashi (1st) was merged with the town of Makioka, and the village of Mitomi, both from Higashiyamanashi District, to create the city of Yamanashi (2nd).
