Year Seven is an educational year group in schools in many countries including England, Wales, Australia and New Zealand. It is usually the seventh year of compulsory education and incorporates students aged between eleven and thirteen.

In Australia, Year Seven is usually the seventh year of compulsory education after Prep. Although there are slight variations between the states, most children in Year Seven are aged between twelve and thirteen. Children in Year 7 start High School or Secondary School, or Secondary Colleges or finish Primary School.[1]

In New Zealand, Year Seven is the seventh year of compulsory education. Children are aged eleven or twelve in this year group. [2] Year Seven pupils are educated in Primary schools or in Area schools or in some areas in Intermediate schools.[3]

In schools in England and Wales Year Seven is the seventh year after Reception. It is the seventh full year of compulsory education, with children being admitted who are aged 11 by the 31st August in any given academic year. It is also the first year of Key Stage 3 in which the Secondary National Curriculum is taught.[4]

Year Seven is usually the first year of Secondary school. In some areas of England, Year Seven is a year group in Middle school.

In schools in Wales Year Seven is the seventh year after Reception. It is currently the seventh full year of compulsory education, with children being admitted who are aged 11 on the 1st September in any given academic year. It is the first year group in Key Stage 3 and marks the beginning of secondary education.[5]

In Northern Ireland and Scotland, the seventh year of compulsory education is called Primary Seven, and pupils generally start at the age of 11.
