The early Malmsteen Strats (produced before the change to the actual "large headstock" models in 1998) featured an American 2-point synchronized tremolo, small headstock with "spaghetti"-style decal, Gotoh/Kluson tuners and a hardened-steel EasyGlider string tree, a Fender "DeltaTone" single-coil pickup in the middle position and a TBX tone control for the middle/bridge pickups.
On November 11, 2008, the Fender Custom Shop released the Yngwie Malmsteen "Play Loud" Stratocaster, a painstaking copy of Yngwie's battered 1971 Strat, which was used as the model in the creation of this edition. Each of the guitars in the edition was hand-built by Senior Master Builder John Cruz, Senior Master Builder Todd Krause and Senior Master Builder Yuriy Shishkov, featuring a heavily "reliced" Vintage White finish and the hand-written "Play Loud" sticker on the upper horn. As on the original, the neck is lightly scalloped. Other specifications include:
