Yo amo a Paquita Gallego (International Title:I love Paquita Gallego) is a Spanish language television drama series from Colombia which aired in 1998 and 1999. The drama is loosely based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. It features the typical love-hate scenarios found in television soap operas. The drama starred Cristina Umaña, Andres Juan and Victoria Gongora.

In 1970, in Corraleja, Soledad Gallego is sexually assaulted by three men including a San Sebastian [disambiguation needed] club owner Antonio and Horacio, a butcher. She has a daughter, Paquita who is born on a stormy night and does not cry when she is born. Hatred develops between Carolina Hidalgo and Soledad. Javier Hidalgo loves Soledad but his mother, Carolina disapproves. Carolina says Soledad does know who the father of Paquita is but the father became tired of Soledad and left. Feeling bitter, Soledad can no longer raise Paquita. Chavela Vargas is Soledad's aunt. She is also a fortune teller. She would like to find a good man for Soledad. She tries to discover the identity of Paquita's father but Soledad does not tell her she was raped. Under pressure from his parents and against his best judgement (his heart belongs to Soledad), Javier marries Margarita, a nice girl from high society. Nine months after their marriage Andres is born. Margarita rejects Javier, Chavela and Soledad. When she is eight, Paquita has a difficult time at school because everyone knows she is the child of rape and also because she has a skin rash. The children including Rina Marcela call Paquita a liar. Andreas defends her. Aunt Chavela takes Paquita out of school to home school her. Paquita suffers a concussion. Rina Marcela takes the opportunity to send Paquita to a mental home. Anibal tries to rescue Paquita and failing that, implicates Rina Marcela and her father. They confess their treachery and go to jail. Andres is married to Rina but loves Paquita. Rina discovers the truth and tries to kill Andres, Anibal and Paquita in a fire. In the ensuing fight, Rina and Anibal die. Andres thinks Paquita is dead but she has escaped to the forest. Finally, Paquita remembers who she is. Wandering about, she recognises the town where she lived and some hearts that Andres has painted around the town. Andres finds Paquita who has fallen unconscious and takes her to the hospital. She needs a craniotomy to remove a clot. Chavela successfully battles Rina Marcela, Anibal, Tatiana, Kenneth and the rest of her enemies and is happy for Paquita and Andres. Paquita and Andres marry, have a daughter and live happily ever after.
