Ziauddin University is a degree awarding private University in Karachi, Pakistan. After the necessary approval from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), the University established Ziauddin Medical College in 1995, which commenced its first academic session in April 1996. The first group of 55 students began their studies in April 1996 and graduated in March 2001. Dr. Asim Hussian is the Chancellor of the University and former Federal Secretary to the Government of Pakistan, Dr. Anwer Ejaz Beg is the Vice Chancellor. Under their stewardship, Ziauddin University is counted as one of the premier medical institutions in Pakistan.[2]

The establishment of the medical college fulfilled a dream of Sir Ziauddin Ahmed (1877 - 1947) who had hoped to start a medical college at Aligarh Muslim University.[3] Ziauddin Medical University got the Charter of General University in 2005 and now apart from medical and allied faculties such as the Ziauddin Medical College, Ziauddin College of Pharmacy, Ziauddin College of Speech Language Therapy, Ziauddin College of Physiotherpy, Ziauddin College of Medical Technology, Ziauddin College of Nursing,The university is moving forwards towards establishment of College of Media Sciences, Ziaddin College of Biomedical engineering as well as Future prospects include expansion of Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Information Technology. Programes offered: Undergraduate: MBBS,BDS,Pharm-D, BScN,BS Media Sciences, BS Physiotheraphy BSc Speech language theraphy Post graduate: MD, MS, MPil, PhD (different medical and pharmaceutical subjects)

The Exterior of the Clifton Branch University building is currently not painted and rebar can be seen protruding from the roof. Also a new 3 Floor building has been constructed to be used exclusively by BDS students. This has decision has been mocked by many, one MBBS student has been quoted by saying, "Giving them [BDS] students their own building with brand new computers is like giving Oxygen to a patient who has Anaemic Hypoxia!"
