Zymo Research is a manufacturer of molecular biology research tools.

History[edit]

Zymo Research Corporation was founded by Larry Jia in 1994. The company started its home base in Orange, CA in a garage, manufacturing products for DNA and RNA extraction and purification and other specialty products for E. coli and yeast based research. Since then, it has expanded its product offerings to include tools for Epigenetics research. As of December 2010, the privately held company has relocated its headquartered operations to Irvine, CA.

In 2009, Zymo Research Europe was established in Freiburg, Germany. It works as a distribution support hub for Europe and the Middle East and will also be initiating research and development programs at a new facility, intended for state-of-the-art researching.

Products[edit]

The company is a supplier of DNA extraction and RNA extraction kit products used to isolate and purify DNA and RNA from various sample sources ranging from tough to lyse environmental samples to tissue, blood, and serum samples.[1] They have expanded in recent years and today have emerged as an Epigenetics company, offering products in DNA methylation and DNA Hydroxymethylation.

Epigenetics Research Tools[edit]

Zymo Research offers from their Epigenetics line-up products for CpG methylation detection and quantitation. Many of these products exploit the bisulfite conversion approach, wherein unmethylated cytosine is converted to uracil, allowing for downstream sequencing analysis. The company also offers polymerases optimized for PCR analysis of bisulfite-converted DNA, as well as antibodies for IP-based epigenetics research.

In addition to their methylation portfolio, Zymo Research recently began to offer product lines for analysis of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine. In late 2010, the company became the first to offer a kit for locus specific 5-hydroxymethylcytosine detection (protection, digestion, amplification).

Included in the company’s epigenetics portfolio are kits for nucleosomal DNA purification, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and small RNA isolation.

Distribution[edit]

The company's products are distributed in North America and internationally through distributors located in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, Australia, and others.
